The objective of this study was to examine the effects of how group art therapy using the LCSI
personality test on mothers' self-understanding and nurturing stress. The subjects included 24 mothers aged
30-40 with elementary school-aged children in grade 1-3. In order to select the participants, the researchers
announced about the purpose of the program, and assigned 12 people to the experimental group, and 12
people to the control group. The study period was from 19 May 2014 until 30 June 2014, except for the
pre-test and post-tests, and two weekly 100-minute session were conducted for a total of 12 sessions. The
research tools included Self-Understanding Scale(SUS) and Parenting Stress Index(PSI). To check the changes
in the pre-tests and post-tests, the data were quantitatively processed by an analysis of covariance
(ANCOVA) with the SPSS 18.0 program. The results of this study are as follows. First, the results of the
SUS showed a significant difference in five areas among a total of the seven areas, which is statistically
meaningful. Second, the results of take the PSI as a covariate variable demonstrated a statistically significant
difference in all of three areas' results in the overall result. Third, through the process of each session,
there were positive changes in the mothers' self-understanding and nurturing stress. In conclusion, LCSI
group art therapy program had some positive effects on mothers' self-understanding and nurturing stress.
