The purpose of this study is to investigate the meaning of 'ideal landscape'
in the traditional patings. The analysis of a 15th century ideal landscape paintings
and would reveal the characteristics of
traditional paintings, which placed a high value on seeing and almost walking in a
landscape painting with a distilled state of mind as a means of reaching the idea
of mind landscape and the idea of Wua Yu.
The traditional landscape paintings imply more than portraying the original
form of a mountain or river. Walking in nature through landscape with your mind
is one of traditional approaches in art appreciation based on the concept of the
mind landscape and Wua Yu, which means leisurely sightseeing while laying
down. In traditional landscape paintings the idea of the mind landscape and Wua
Yu had a major role in deciding the content and format og landscapes, because it
regards the contemplation of a landscape paintings as significant as walking in the
real nature. The original idea of Wua Yu can be found in Stoicism from the
period of North and South Dynasties of China. At this time, the philosophers were
lust for the state where the mind floats around freely transgressing into a
transcendent world.
The purpose of this study is to research the mind landscape and Wua Yu in
the traditional landscape paintings and implicate the mind landscape for art
education. This study attempts to bring and increase attention on the fact that in
traditional ideas and art, there is more emphasis that had been placed on the
various value in the ideal landscape paintings. Considering the contemporary
cultural context, the multi-dimensional study on the various meanings of the
traditional idea are very essential for contemporary application.
