The object of this study is to examine a special class teacher's practical
knowledge in the math classes that utilizes storytelling. Action research method
was applied to this study. Participants consist of the researcher who conducted
the classes, 5 experienced teachers who observed the classes, 2 elementary
school students, one with intellectual disability and the other with learning
disability. The data was collected from seven times of math classes utilizing
storytelling, and analyzed in an inductive way, which drew 3 main themes, 7
sub-categories, and 23 meaning units.
As a result, special teacher's practical knowledge obtained from conducting
math classes utilizing storytelling was categorized as 3 main themes, 'designing
the effective math class for applying storytelling class model,' 'delivering the
interesting math class by utilizing a fairy tale,' and 'growing as an instruction
expert who participates students in the class.' Last of all, this research made a
suggestion to follow-up study based on the results of the research.
