1) and OD600 values were adjusted to 0.1. Bacterial cells were then harvested and sus- pended in phosphate-buffered saline. For acidity and salt stress tolerance, cells were cultured in acidic LB agar plates (pH = 4.5) and saline media (1.5% NaCl), respectively. Tolerance to osmotic pressure was tested by adding 20% of D-sorbitol to the cell suspension and incubating for 40 min. Tolerance to... operon, were not significantly different from the wild-type except in slight decrease in swimming and swarming motility with wbiH deletion. Altogether, the results of present study indicated that the LPS, particularly the core OS region, is required for tolerance to environmental stress and full virulence in B. glumae. To our knowledge, this is the first functional study of LPS in a plant pathogenic Burkholderia sp. and presents a step forward toward full understanding of B. glumae pathogenesis. -

® Plant Health Care, Mexico City, Mexico), but in half the time (72 h). The difference in these results may be explained by the incubation condi- tions, which may affect the diffusion of secondary metabo- lites by the biocontrol agent and the pathogen development (Infante et al., 2011). Alvarado-Marchena and Rivera-Men- dez (2016) evaluated in vitro the efficiency of Trichoderma asperellum... fruits at harvest, and seed yield (kg ha−1) were registered. Morphological, pathogenic and molecular characterization identified Sclerotium rolfsii as the causal agent of rot in pipiana pumpkin fruits. Now, in vitro conditions, the highest inhibition of S. rolfsii were obtained by Trichoderma virens strain G-41 (70.72%), T. asperellum strain CSAEGro-1 (69%), and the fungicides metalaxyl (100%), pyraclostrobin (100%), quintozene (100%), cyprodinil +... -

Response... severe outbreak of Olive Quick Decline Syndrome (OQDS) caused by Xylella fastidiosa infection was first noticed in 2013 on olive trees in the southern part of Apulia region (Lecce province, southern Italy). Studies were carried out for detection and diversity evaluation of the Apulian strain of Xylella fastidiosa. The presence of the pathogen in olive samples was detected by PCR amplifying the 16S rDNA, gyrase B subunit (gyrB) and HL hypothetical protein genes and single nucleotide polymorphisms... -

The antagonistic activ- ity of bacterial strains was determined by measuring the inhibition zone of mycelial growth of the fungal pathogens on potato dextrose agar (PDA) medium using in vitro con- frontation bioassay (Bibi et al., 2012). For the antibacterial test, B. glumae KACC10359 and X. oryzae pv. oryzae KACC 10208 were grown on one-half strength R2A and YGC media (10 g glucose, 30 g... and YC7010, with anti-microbial, plant growth-promoting, and systemic resistance-inducing activities were isolated from the roots of rice in paddy fields at Jinju, Korea, and their multifunctional activities were analyzed. Strain YC7007 inhibited mycelial growth of major rice fungal pathogens strongly in vitro. Bacterial blight and panicle blight caused by Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae (KACC 10208) and Burkholderia glumae (KACC 44022), respectively, were also suppressed effectively by drenching... -

C, D: PI 88788) to the infection of soybean cyst nematode race 3, showing the formation of necrosis (Nc) within syncytial cells (S) (intracellular necrotic responses) (A, B) and in middle lamellae (intercellular necrotic responses) (C). Intercellular necroses appear to spread into syncytial cytoplasm via invagination (C) or diffusion (D). Ne=nematode, WA=cell wall apposition. Bars=10 μm (A) and 5... 88788 in relation to SCN-resistance was the formation of prominent cell wall appositions and nuclear degeneration prior to cytoplasmic degradation in syncytial cells, respectively. Necrosis and cell wall apposition are types of hypersensitive responses occurring at early stages of the nematode infection so that these structural modifications indicate the inhibition of initial syncytial development related to the early nematode development. As soybean cultivars and lines with identical or similar...
