In the SE group, there was a statistically significant difference in Cobb’s angle, pulmonary function, and FMS scores compared to before intervention (p<0.05). The SERME group showed a significant difference in Cobb’s angle and peak expiratory flow in pulmonary function compared to the SE group (p<0.05). Conclusions: The results suggest that SERME could be a more effective intervention for improvement of the Cobb’s angle and pulmonary function for scoliosis patients. -

frequency of 4 Hz and duration of 200 μs and set at burst mode for 15 minutes on both calf muscles to provoke muscle contraction. The placebo-TENS was applied as the same as the TENS group without stimulation. The timed up and go test (TUG), functional reach test (FRT), 10 meters walk test (MWT), and 6MWT scores were used to measure ..PAGE:3 Jung, et al: TENS on balance and gait in dementia... Objective: Elderly people with dementia experience not only cognitive dysfunction but also motor function deficits, such as balance and gait impairments. Recently, transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) has been used to reduce pain as well as to control muscle spasm, spasticity and motor performance in various types of subjects. The purpose of this study determined the effect of a single trial TENS on balance and gait function in elderly people with dementia. Design: A randomized... -

of the knee joint [2]. Accordingly, asymmetry of weight distribution makes it difficult to perform daily life ac- tivities, such as walking and sit to stand [1,3]. In particular, quadriceps strength deficits of 50%-60% exist one month postoperatively [4]. Therefore, rehabilitation to secure mus- cle strength of the quadriceps is essential for function and stability of the knee [5]. Recently,... electrical stimulation (NMES) of the quadriceps femoris muscle, on strength, pain, and weight distribution in patients with knee instability post surgery. Design: Randomized controlled trial. Methods: Twenty patients in the early stage of rehabilitation after knee surgery were recruited as subjects and were randomly divided into either experimental group (exercise combined with NMES) (n=10) or control group (n=10). Both groups received strength training of the lower limb for 20 min/day, 5... -

The function of the endothelial cells was evaluated in 2 ways; first, the response to 4 minutes of vascular occlusion of the skin was measured with a laser Doppler flow meter. Second, the skin blood flow response to local heat at 42 degrees C for 6 minutes was examined. Results: The results of the experiments showed that the blood flow response to heat was reduced after 3 weeks administration of vitamin D in the subjects with diabetes and in the control subjects (p<0.05).
