blood pressure and vascular contractility in rats. Orally administered PASEL (62.5 mg/kg and 250 mg/kg, for 5 weeks) lowered the blood pressure of spontaneous hypertensive rats (SHR) but this was not observed in normal Wistar-Kyoto rats (WKR). We then investigated the effects of PASEL on the arterial contraction of the small branches of cerebral arteries (CAs) and large conduit femoral arteries (FAs) in rats. PASEL did not affect high-K (KCl 60 mM)- or phenyleprine (PhE)-induced contracture of... -

This study was designed to characterize ureteral smooth muscle motility and also to study the effect of forskolin (FSK) and isoproterenol (ISO) on smooth muscle contractility in murine ureter. High K+ (50 mM) produced tonic contraction by 0.17±0.06 mN (n=19). Neuropeptide and neurotransmitters such as serotonin (5μM), histamine (20μM), and carbarchol (CCh, 10∼50μM) did not produce significant contraction. However, CCh (50μM) produced slow phasic contraction in the presence of 25 mM K+.... -
Effect of Mild Hypothermia on the Mitogen Activated Protein Kinases in Experimental Stroke

Middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) results in cell death by activation of complex signal pathways for cell death and survival. Hypothermia is a robust neuroprotectant, and its effect has often been attributed to various mechanisms, but it is not yet clear. Upstream from the cell death promoters and executioners are several enzymes that may activate several transcription factors involved in cell death and survival. In this study, we immunohistochemically examined the phosphorylation of... -

Exogenous carbon monoxide (0.2%) increases L-type calcium (Ca2) current in human jejunal circular smooth muscle cells. The stimulatory effect of carbon monoxide (CO) on L-type Ca2 current is inhibited by pre-application of L-NNA, a classical competitive inhibitor of nitric oxide synthase (NOS) with no significant isoform selectivity (Lim, 2003). In the present study, we investigated which isoform of NOS affected CO induced stimulation of L-type Ca2 current in human jejunal... -

Cerebral blood vessels relax when extracellular K concentrations ([K])e are elevated moderately (2∼15 mM, K-induced vasorelaxation). We have therefore studied the underlying mechanism for this K- induced vasorelaxation in the isolated middle cerebral arteries (MCAs). The effects of ouabain and Ba2 on K-induced vasorelaxation were examined to determine the role of sodium pump and/or Ba-sensitive process (possibly, inward rectifier K current) in the... -

Lee, Jong-Eun, Lee, Byung-Kook, Ahn, Hyun-Taek, Ahn, Byoung-Hee, Kang, Jung-Chaee 대한생리학회 대한생리학회지 6 Pages
대한생리학회 대한생리학회지 1992, 제 26권 제 2호 3 123-128 (6 pages)
The present study was undertaken to examine if endogenous nitric oxide is partly responsible for the high calcium induced vasorelaxation in vitro. Isolated porcine coronary arterial rings were suspended in the tissue chamber and their changes in isometric tension were recorded. KCI little affected the vascular tension in the calcium free media, but subsequent addition of cumulative doses of CaCl3 from 1 to 40 mM caused a contraction followed by complete relaxation. The maximum tension was noted... -
