Study on urea precursor effect on the electroactivities of nitrogen-doped graphene nanosheets electrodes for lithium cells
Ki-Yong Kim, Yongju Jung, Seok Kim 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 7 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2016, Vol.19 5 40-46 (7 pages)
Nitrogen-atom doped graphene oxide was considered to prevent the dissolution of polysulfide and to guarantee the enhanced redox reaction of sulfur for good cycle performance of lithium sulfur cells. In this study, we used urea as a nitrogen source due to its low cost and easy preparation. To find the optimum urea content, we tested three different ratios of urea to graphene oxide. The morphology of the composites was examined by field emission scanning electron microscope. Functional groups and... -

한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2014, Vol.15 No.2 7 113-116 (4 pages)
Due to their morphology, electrochemical stability, and function as a conducting carbon matrix, graphene nanosheets (GNS) have been studied for their potential roles in improving the performance of sulfur cathodes. In this study, a GNS/sulfur (GNS/S) composite was prepared using the infiltration method with organic solvent. The structure, morphology and crystallinity of the composites were examined using scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and X-ray diffraction. The... -

described in several neurological disease models. However, the therapeutic mechanisms underlying lithium’s actions remain poorly understood. The muscarinic receptor agonist pilocarpine is used to induce status epilepticus, which is followed by hippocampal damage. The present study was designed to investigate the effects of lithium post-treatment on seizure susceptibility and hippocampal neuropathological changes following pilocarpine-induced status epilepticus. Status epilepticus was induced by... -

cultured hippocampal neural progenitor cells. Two-month-old male BALB/c mice were given daily injections of EPO (5 U/g) for seven days and were sacrificed 12 hours after the final injection. Proliferation assays demonstrated that EPO treatment increased the density of bromodeoxyuridine (BrdU)-labeled cells in the subgranular zone (SGZ) compared to that in vehicle-treated controls. Functional differentiation studies using dissociated hippocampal cultures revealed that EPO treatment also increased... -

model with which to screen effective drugs that increase neurogenesis. Recent technologies for human embryonic stem cells (ESCs) or induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) can provide human cells that harbour specific neurodegenerative disease. This article discusses the use of NSCs, ESCs and iPSCs for neurodegenerative drug screening and toxicity evaluation. In addition, we introduce drugs or natural products that are recently identified to affect the stem cell fate to generate neurons or glia. -

chronic lithium treatment occurred at far upstream of caspase activation, since the chronic lithium treatment increased the expression of Bcl-2, an important antiapoptotic gene known to act upstream of caspase cascade. Timm's histochemistry indicated the complete blockade of the NMDA insults by the treatment. There was no indication of axonal regeneration, which follows synaptic degeneration induced by neuronal damage. Furthermore, this study reports for the first time that TNFR-1 and Fas ligand... -

we isolated cerebellar granule cells derived from 7-day old Sprague Dawley (SD) rats and grew cells in culture for additional 7 days to mimic PND-14 conditions. Only non-coplanar PCBs at a high dose showed a significant increase of total protein kinase C (PKC) activity at phobol 12,13-dibutyrate ([3H]PDBu) binding assay, indicating that non-coplanar PCBs are more neuroactive than coplanar PCBs in neuronal cells. PKC isozymes were immunoblotted with the selected monoclonal antibodies. PKC-α, δ,... -

effects of excitatory amino acids on the expression of the c-fos and c-jun mRNA in rat C6 glioma cells. The glutamate, N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA), and kainic acid (KA) increased c-fos mRNA level in a concentration-dependent manner. However, they did not affect c-jun mRNA level. In addition, forskolin and phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate (PMA) increased c-fos mRNA level. Furthermore, PMA increased c-jun mRNA level whereas forskolin downregulated c-jun mRNA level. The glutamate, NMDA and KA, at a... -

Li-evoked CA release was also diminished markedly by preloading with tetrodotoxin (5 × 10-7 M)-contaming Krebs for 20 min. All these experimental results taken together suggest that lithium enhances CA secretion in a Ca++-dependent fashion by its accumulation in the adrenomedullary chromaffin cells of the rat, and that this secretory effect may be meidated by a dual mechanism: (i) chromaffin cell depolarization and subsequent opening of voltage-sensitive Ca++ channels and (ii) activation of a... -

were dramatically attenuated by chronic lithium pretreatment (lithium chloride, 300 mg/kg/d, i.p. for 7∼10 days). At the same time, lithium ion blocked the appearance of TUNEL positive cells, and the morphological assessment indicated an effective neuroprotection by lithium against NMDA excitotoxicity. Although the exact action mechanism of lithium is not straightforward at this time, we propose that the inhibition of Bax and caspase cascade is involved in the neuroprotective action of lithium. -

PK-15 cells. The rescued Flc-LOM virus grew more slowly than the parental virus, LOM, in the cells. Intramuscular immunization with Flc-LOM was safe and highly immunogenic in pigs; no clinical signs or virus transmission to sentinel animals were observed after 35 days. CSFV-specific neutralizing antibodies were detected 14 days post-infection. After challenge with the virulent CSFV strain SW03, pigs immunized with Flc-LOM were shown to be fully protected. Thus, our newly established infectious... -
