Photocatalytic performance of graphene/Ag/TiO₂ hybrid nanocomposites
Jong-Ho Lee, In-Ki Kim, Donghwan Cho, Jeong-Il Youn, Young-Jig Kim, Han-Jun Oh 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 8 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2015, Vol.16 No.4 4 247-254 (8 pages)
deposition on the Ag/TiO₂ nanotubes was achieved using an electrophoretic deposition process. Based on the dye degradation results, it was determined that the photocatalytic efficiency was significantly affected by deposition of silver particles and graphene on the TiO₂ catalyst. Highly efficient destruction of the dye was obtained with the new graphene/Ag/TiO₂ nanotube photocatalyst. This may be attributed to a synergistic effect of the graphene and Ag nanoparticles on the TiO₂ nanotubes. -
Advances in liquid crystalline nano-carbon materials: preparation of nano-carbon based lyotropic liquid crystal and their fabrication of nano-carbon fibers with liquid crystalline spinning
Yong-Mun Choi, in Jung Jun Yeon, Hwang Seung Min, Kim Hyeonsu Jeong, Bon-Cheol Ku, Munju Goh 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 10 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2015, Vol.16 No.4 1 223-232 (10 pages)
This review presents current progress in the preparation methods of liquid crystalline nanocarbon materials and the liquid crystalline spinning method for producing nano-carbon fibers. In particular, we focus on the fabrication of liquid crystalline carbon nanotubes by spinning from superacids, and the continuous production of macroscopic fiber from liquid crystalline graphene oxide. -
Influence of defective sites in Pt/C catalysts on the anode of direct methanol fuel cell and their role in CO poisoning: a first-principles study
Soonchul Kwon, Seung Geol Lee 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 5 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2015, Vol.16 No.3 6 198-202 (5 pages)
defect adsorption sites on the anode of direct methanol fuel cells were investigated, to elucidate the mechanisms of H2 dissociation and carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning. Density functional theory calculations were carried out to determine the effect of defect sites located neighboring to or distant from the Pt catalyst on H2 and CO adsorption properties, based on electronic properties such as adsorption energy and electronic band gap. Interestingly, the presence of neighboring defect sites led to... -
Nanoporous graphene oxide membrane and its application in molecular sieving
S. Mahmood Fatemi, Masoud Arabieh, Hamid Sepehrian 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 9 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2015, Vol.16 No.3 4 183-191 (9 pages)
Gas transport through graphene-derived membranes has gained much interest recently due to its promising potential in filtration and separation applications. In this work, we explore Kr-85 gas radionuclide sequestration from natural air in nanoporous graphene oxide membranes in which different sizes and geometries of pores were modeled on the graphene oxide sheet. This was done using atomistic simulations considering mean-squared displacement, diffusion coefficient, number of crossed species of... -
Mesophase formation behavior in petroleum residues
Subhash Kumar, Manoj Srivastava 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 12 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2015, Vol.16 No.3 3 171-182 (12 pages)
s (CLO-1, CLO-2) obtained from fluid catalytic cracking units of different Indian petroleum refineries, were taken as feed stocks. A third petroleum residue, aromatic extract (AE), was produced by extraction of one of the CLO-1 by using N-methyl pyrrolidone solvent. These petroleum residues were thermally treated at 380°C to examine their mesophase formation behavior. Mesophase pitches produced as a result of thermal treatment were characterized physico-chemically, as well as by instrumental... -
Effects of cross-linking methods for polyethylene-based carbon fibers: review
Kwan-Woo Kim, Hye-Min Lee, Jeong-Hun An, Byoung-Suhk Kim, Byung-Gak Min, Shin-Jae Kang, Kay-Hyeok An, Byung-Joo Kim 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 24 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2015, Vol.16 No.3 2 147-170 (24 pages)
In recent decades, there has been an increasing interest in the use of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) in aerospace, renewable energy and other industries, due to its low weight and relatively good mechanical properties compared with traditional metals. However, due to the high cost of petroleum-based precursors and their associated processing costs, CF remains a specialty product and as such has been limited to use in high-end aerospace, sporting goods, automotive, and specialist... -
Preparation of sulfonated reduced graphene oxide by radiationinduced chemical reduction of sulfonated graphene oxide
Chang-Hee Jung, Ji-Hyun Hong, Jin-Mook Jung, In-Tae Hwang, Chan-Hee Jung and Jae-Hak Choi 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 4 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2015, Vol.16 No.1 6 41-44 (4 pages)
We report the preparation of sulfonated reduced graphene oxide (SRGO) by the sulfonation of graphene oxide followed by radiation-induced chemical reduction. Graphene oxide prepared by the well-known modified Hummer's method was sulfonated with the aryl diazonium salt of sulfanilic acid. Sulfonated graphene oxide (SGO) dispersed in ethanol was subsequently reduced by γ-ray irradiation at various absorbed doses to produce SRGO. The results of optical, chemical, and thermal analyses revealed that... -
Carbon nanotubes synthesis using diffusion and premixed flame methods: a review
Garima Mittal, Vivek Dhand, Kyong Yop Rhee, Hyeon-Ju Kim and Dong Ho Jung 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 10 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2015, Vol.16 No.1 1 1-10 (10 pages)
In recent years, flame synthesis has absorbed a great deal of attention as a combustion method for the production of metal oxide nanoparticles, carbon nanotubes, and other related carbon nanostructures, over the existing conventional methods. Flame synthesis is an energyefficient, scalable, cost-effective, rapid and continuous process, where flame provides the necessary chemical species for the nucleation of carbon structures (feed stock or precursor) and the energy for the production of carbon... -
A study on elemental mercury adsorption behaviors of nanoporous carbons with carbon dioxide activation
Kyong-Min Bae and Soo-Jin Park 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 4 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2014, Vol.15 No.4 10 295-298 (4 pages)
In this work, nanoporous carbons (NPCs) were prepared by the self-assembly of polymeric carbon precursors and block copolymer template in the presence of tetraethyl orthosilicate and colloidal silica. The NPCs’ pore structures and total pore volumes were analyzed by reference to N2/77 K adsorption isotherms. The porosity and elemental mercury adsorption of NPCs were increased by activation with carbon dioxide. It could be resulted that elemental mercury adsorption ability of NPCs depended on...
