The Effect of Carbon Monoxide on Contraction, Cytosolic Ca2+ Level and Ionic Currents in Guinea Pig Ileal Smooth Muscle
SeongChunKwon, SeungSooChung, YunSukKim, TaickSangNam 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 7 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2000, Vol.4 No.6 6 471-477 (7 pages)
The aim of this study was to clarify the mechanism of the inhibitory action of carbon monoxide (CO) on contraction, by measuring cytosolic Ca2 level ([Ca2]i) and ionic currents in guinea-pig ileum. CO (10%) inhibited 40 mM KCl-induced contraction and this effect was blocked by ODQ (1μM), a soluble guanylyl cyclase (sGC) inhibitor. CO inhibited the 40 mM KCl-induced contraction without changing [Ca2]i. Cumulative addition of KCl induced a graded increase in [Ca2]i... -
Effects of Cholecystokinin Octapeptide on Neuronal Activities in the Rat Nucleus Tractus Solitarius
HyewhonRhim, Chan-WoongPark 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 7 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2000, Vol.4 No.4 2 275-281 (7 pages)
Cholecystokinin (CCK) is a gastrointestinal hormone which plays an important role in satiety and gastric motility. It is also widely distributed throughout the central nervous system, where it appears to be involved in the central control of anxiety, feeding behavior and nociception. Two distinct CCK receptor types, CCKA and CCKB, have been found in the brain. Both CCK receptors coexist in the rat nucleus tractus solitarius (NTS), which is the primary center for the coordination of peripheral... -
Effect of Capsaicin on Delayed Rectifier K+ Current in Adult Rat Dorsal Root Ganglion Neurons
JunghyunHahn, SungkwonChung, HyoweonBang 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2000, Vol.4 No.1 2 9-14 (6 pages)
K currents play multiple roles in the excitability of dorsal root ganglion (DRG) neurons. Influences on these currents change the shape of the action potential, its firing threshold and the resting membrane potential. In this study, whole cell configuration of patch clamp technique had been applied to record the blocking effect of capsaicin, a lipophilic alkaloid, on the delayed rectifier K current in cultured small diameter DRG neurons of adult rat. Capsaicin reduced the... -
Physiological and Pharmacological Characterization of Glutamate and GABA Receptors in the Retina

Glutamate and γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) are major excitatory and inhibitory neurotransmitters in the vertebrate retina, respectively. Using the whole-cell patch clamp technique and a rapid solution changer, glutamate and GABA receptors have been extensively investigated in carp retina. Glutamate receptors on both horizontal and amacrine cells may be an AMPA preferring subtype, which predominantly consists of flop splice variants. GABAA and GABAC receptors coexist in bipolar cells and they... -
The Role of Somatostatin in Nociceptive Processing of the Spinal Cord in Anesthetized Cats

대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1999, Vol.3 No.4 1 365-373 (9 pages)
Somatostatin (SOM) is one of the major neuropeptides in dorsal root ganglion cells, but its role in spinal nociceptive process has not been well known. In present study we aimed to investigate the effect of SOM on the response of dorsal horn neurons to the various types of peripheral nociceptive stimuli in anesthetized cats. Using carbon-filament microelectrode, the single cell activities of wide dynamic range neurons were recorded from the lumbosacral enlargement after noxious mechanical... -
Sensitivity of Rabbit Cerebral Artery to Serotonin is Increased with the Moderate Increase of Extracellular K+

[K]O can be increased under a variety of conditions including subarachnoid hemorrhage. The increase of [K]O in the range of 5∼15 mM may affect tensions of blood vessels and can change their sensitivity to various vasoactive substances. Therefore, it was examined in the present study whether the sensitivity of cerebral arteries to vasoactive substances can be changed with the moderate increase of [K]O, using Mulvany-type myograph and [Ca2]c measurement. The... -
Pharmacological Characterization of Synthetic Tetrahydroisoquinoline Alkaloids, YS 51 and YS 55, on the Cardiovascular System

대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1998, Vol.2 No.4 8 461-469 (9 pages)
Tetrahydroisoquinoline (THI) alkaloids can be considered as cyclized derivatives of simple phenylethylamines, and many of them, especially with 6,7-disubstitution, demonstrate relatively high affinity for catecholamines. Two -OH groups at 6 and 7 positions are supposed to be essential to exert -receptor activities. However, it is not clear whether -OH at 6,7 substitution of THIs also shows -adrenoceptor activities. In the present study, we investigated whether -OH or -OCH3... -
Effects of Exogenous ATP on Calcium Mobilization and Cell Proliferation in C6 Glioma Cell
Eun-JungLee, SeokHoCha, WoonKyuLee, Kweon-HaengLee, Sang-BokLee 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 7 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1998, Vol.2 No.4 3 419-425 (7 pages)
To clarify the effect of extracellular ATP in cultured C6 glioma cells, ATP-induced cytosolic free calcium ([Ca2]i) mobilization and cell proliferation were investigated. ATP-induced [Ca2]i increased in a dose-dependent manner (107 M∼103 M). ATP-induced [Ca2]i increases were slightly slowed in extracellular calcium-free conditions especially in sustained phase. ATP-induced [Ca2]i increment was also inhibited by the pretreatment of U73122, a... -
External pH Effects on Delayed Rectifier K+ Currents of Small Dorsal Root Ganglion Neuron of Rat

Under certain pathophysiological conditions, such as inflammation and ischemia, the concentration of H+ ion in the tissue surrounding neurons is changed. Variations in H+ concentration are known to alter the conduction and/of the gating properties of several types of ion channels. Several types of K+ channels are modulated by pH. In this study, the whole cell configuration of the patch clamp technique has been applied to the recording of the responses of change of external pH on the delayed... -
