Molecular Cloning and Characterization of Soybean Cinnamoyl CoA Reductase Induced by Abiotic Stresses
The Plant Pathology Journal 6 Pages
12 380-385 (6 pages)
Suppression subtractive hybridization was used to isolate wound-induced genes from soybean. One of the wound-induced genes, gmwi143 designated as GmCCR, showed high homology with genes encoding cinnamoyl- CoA reductase (CCR; EC 1.2.1.44). Deduced amino acid sequences encoded by GmCCR showed the highest identity (77%) with those of Acacia CCR. There are 2 CCR genes highly homologous to GmCCR in soybean genome based on Phytozome DB analysis. RNA expression of GmCCR was specifically induced by... -
Management of Charcoal Rot of Sesame by Seed Soaking in Medicinal Plant Extracts and Hot Water
The Plant Pathology Journal 8 Pages
11 372-379 (8 pages)
sesame seeds in hot water at 60oC for 5 minutes increased seed germination of Giza 32 and Shandawel-3 cvs. followed by 55 oC, 50oC and 45oC, while 40oC treatment resulted the lowest seed germination rate. Dipping sesame seeds in hot water at different temperature before planting decreased seed, seedling and charcoal rots. Soaking seeds in hot water at 60oC increased greatly plant height and decreased seed, seedling rot and charcoal rot followed by 55oC and 50oC, under greenhouse condition. -
Biocontrol of Potato White Mold Using Coniothyrium minitans and Resistance of Potato Cultivars to Sclerotinia sclerotiorum
The Plant Pathology Journal 7 Pages
7 346-352 (7 pages)
Agria showed the most susceptibility to S. sclerotiorum. Compared with the healthy control, different concentrations of C. minitans conidia (107, 108 and 109 conidia/mL) reduced disease severity under greenhouse condition, and a concentration 109 was the most effective treatment. During 2008 and 2009, four field trials were conducted to evaluate the efficacy of C. minitans in different soil and aerial applications on disease incidence of potato white mold. In 2008, soil application of Contans -
Ribgrass Mosaic Tobamovirus Occurred on Chinese Cabbage in Korea
The Plant Pathology Journal 12 Pages
5 328-339 (12 pages)
10-8 over for dilution end point, 95oC for temperature inactivation point and 18 weeks for longevity in vitro. RMV had the soil transmission rate of 75.0% for the chinese cabbages, ``Chunhawang`` and ``Seoul`` cultivars. The purified virions of RMV had the typical ultraviolet absorption spectrum of maximum at 260 nm and minimum at 247 nm. RMV of Ca1 isolate was related serologically with antisera of Tobacco mosaic virus (TMV)-Cym, TMV-O and Pepper mottle virus, but not related with antiserum of... -
Microwave Irradiation-assisted RNA Extraction from Woody Tissues for Plant Virus Detection
The Plant Pathology Journal 3 Pages
14 286-288 (3 pages)
Plant tissue homogenization using a mortar or mechanical equipment has been the preferred method for obtaining high yields of total RNA; this method, however, is both time-consuming and expensive. Additionally, homogenization may generate excessive endogenous RNases, polyphenolics, and other substances that reduce the quality and quantity of RNA. In this study, we describe the microwave irradiation-assisted RNA extraction (MIRE) technique which, without tissue disruption and homogenization,... -
Evaluation on Red Pepper Germplasm lines (Capsicum spp.) for Resistance to Anthracnose Caused by Colletotrichum acutaum
The Plant Pathology Journal 7 Pages
12 273-279 (7 pages)
We evaluated 209 Capsicum accessions from the National Agrobiodiversity of RDA, for their reaction against of anthracnose disease caused by Colletotrichum acutatum. Two hundred nine accessions of Capsicum were almost composed with Capsicum annuum var. annuum originated from 37 countries. The percentage of infection due to C. acutatum ranged from 11.1% to 100% on immature and matured pepper fruits at 21 days after inoculation. On immature fruits of pepper, one hundred seventy three accessions of... -
Potential of the Volatile-Producing Fungus Nodulisporium sp. CF016 for the Control of Postharvest Diseases of Apple
The Plant Pathology Journal 7 Pages
7 253-259 (7 pages)
In vitro and in vivo mycofumigation effects of the volatileproducing fungus Nodulisporium sp. CF016 isolated from stem of Cinnamomum loureirii and the role of its volatile compounds were investigated against phytopathogenic fungi. The volatile compounds produced by Nodulisporium sp. CF016 inhibited and killed a wide range of plant and storage pathogens including to Pythium ultimum, Rhizoctonia solani, Fusarium oxysporum, Phytophthora capsici, Sclerotinia sclerotiorum, Colletotrichum coccodes,... -
Production of a Phytotoxic Compound, 3-Phenylpropionic Acid by a Bacterial Endophyte, Arthrobacter humicola YC6002 Isolated from the Root of Zoysia japonica
The Plant Pathology Journal 8 Pages
6 245-252 (8 pages)
An endophytic bacterial strain, Arthrobacter humicola YC6002, was isolated from a surface sterilized root of Korean turf grass (Zoysia japonica) collected from Jinju, Korea. This strain showed inhibitory effect on germination and shoot growth of radish. The inhibition of germination and shoot growth of radish seeds varied depending on the age of culture and the temperature at which it was incubated. The culture filtrate of 1/10- strength Tryptic Soy Broth medium, incubated for 48 hours at 30 -
Spatial and Temporal Distribution of a Biocontrol Bacterium Bacillus licheniformis N1 on the Strawberry Plants
The Plant Pathology Journal 7 Pages
5 238-244 (7 pages)
Spatial and temporal distribution of Bacillus licheniformis N1 was investigated over time on the leaves, petioles and crowns of the strawberry plants. Bacterial population on the strawberry plants was quantified over time by selective plating. Bacterial population of N1 containing a plasmid pWH43G carrying green fluorescent protein (GFP) declined relatively faster on the plant surface as compared to the Strain N1 itself. However, this result was found to be enough to utilize the strain to...
