In the peripheral nerves, injury-induced cytokines and growth factors perform critical functions in the activation of both the MEK/ERK and JAK/STAT3 pathways. In this study, we determined that nerve injury-induced ERK activation was temporally correlated with STAT3 phosphorylation at the serine 727 residue. In cultured Schwann cells, we noted that ERK activation is required for the serine phosphorylation of STAT3 by neuropoietic cytokine interleukin-6 (IL-6). Serine phosphorylated STAT3 by IL-6... -
The Effects of DTBNP on Intracellular Ca2+ Signaling in Cultured Bovine Aortic Endothelial Cells

extracellular Ca2+, the application of DTBNP (20μM), a membrane-permeable oxidant, caused an increase in [Ca2+]i, and DTT (2 mM) as a reductant completely reversed the effect of DTBNP. The [Ca2+]i increase induced by DTBNP was also observed in an extracellular Ca2+-free/2 mM EGTA solution, indicating the release of Ca2+ from intracellular store(s). After endoplasmic reticulum was depleted by an IP3-generating agonist, ATP (30μM) or an ER Ca2+ pump inhibitor, thapsigargin (1μM), DTBNP-stressed... -

ion channels. We examined whether fluoxetine affects ATP-induced calcium signaling in PC12 cells by using fura-2-based digital calcium imaging and assay for [3H]-inositol phosphates (IPs). Treatment with ATP (100μM) for 2 min induced [Ca2]i increases. The ATP-induced [Ca2]i increases were significantly decreased by removal of extracellular Ca2 and treatment with the inhibitor of endoplasmic reticulum Ca2 ATPase thapsigargin (1μM). Treatment with fluoxetine for 5 min... -

We examined the effects of EGTA and verapamil on phorbol ester-and forskolin-stimulated LH releases and LHβ subunit mRNA levels in order to verify the role of extracellular Ca++ on PKC- or cAMP-induced increases in LH release and LHβ subunit mRNA levels in cultured anterior pituitary cells of rat. Forskolin-stimulated LHβ subunit mRNA levels as well as LH release were all suppressed by prevention of Ca++ mobilization from extracellular environment, after the treatment of EGTA as a Ca++... -

to transducer extracellular stimuli to several cellular processes, including cell division, differentiation as well as responses to various stresses. In plants, several studies have revealed that MAPK cascade pathways play an important role in responses against biotic and abiotic stresses, including wounding, pathogen infection, temperature, drought, salinity and plant hormones. It is also known that MAPK cascadesmediated signaling is an essential process in the resistance step to pathogens by... -
Extracellular Polymeric Substances of Pseudomonas chlororaphis O6 Induce Systemic Drought Tolerance in Plants

extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) from P. chlororaphis O6 to epidermal peels of leaves of Arabidopsis thaliana also reduce the size of stomatal openings. Growth of A. thaliana seedlings with applications of the EPS from P. chlororaphis O6 reduced the extent of wilting when water was withheld from the plants. Fluorescence measurements showed photosystem II was protected in the A. thaliana leaves in the water stressed EPS-exposed plants. These findings indicate that P. chlororaphis O6 has... -

an extracellular laccase, Crp, which encodes an abundant tissue-specific cell-surface hydrophobin that mediates physical strength, and Mf2/1 and Mf2/2, which encode pheromone genes involved in poor sporulation in the presence of hypovirus. Since the phenotypic changes in the fungal host are pleiotropic, although coordinated and specific, it has been suggested that the hypovirus disturbs one or several regulatory pathways (Nuss, 1996). Accordingly, several studies have shown the implementation of... -
