necrosis factor-α) production in blood, and intracellular calcium mobilization in PMNs. Defibrotide did not inhibit the gastric secretion and not change the gastric pH. Treatment of esophagitis rats with defibrotide inhibited lipid peroxidation, and myeloperoxidase (MPO) in the esophagus in comparison with untreated rats. Defibrotide significantly decreased the PMN adherence to superior mesenteric artery endothelium in a dose-dependent manner. Superoxide anion and hydrogen peroxide production... -
Activation of Vestibular Neurons Projecting to Autonomic Brain Stem Nuclei Following Acute Hypotension in Rats

of pERK1/2-immunoreactive neurons appeared bilaterally in the caudal aspect of the medial and inferior VN. No labeling of pERK1/2 was observed in the lateral VN. The peak expression of pERK1/2 in these nuclei occurred within 5 min after hemorrhage. However, in bilaterally labyrinthectomized rats, the appearance of pERK1/2-immunoreactive neurons was eliminated in the VN. Western blot confirmed the effect of bilateral labyrinthectomy on pERK1/2 protein expression in the medial vestibular nucleus 5... -
Activation of Vestibular Neurons Projecting to Autonomic Brain Stem Nuclei Following Acute Hypotension in Rats

The purpose of the present study was to elucidate the possible involvement of the medial vestibular nucleus (MVN) and inferior vestibular nucleus (IVN) following acute hypotension in the vestibulo- autonomic reflex through vestibulosolitary or vestibuloventrolateral projections. Acute hypotension- induced cFos expression was assessed in combination with retrograde cholera toxin B subunit (CTb) tract tracing. After injection of CTb into the solitary region, CTb-labeled neurons were located... -
The Substates with Mutants That Negatively Charged Aspartate in Position 172 Was Replaced with Positive Charge in Murine Inward Rectifier Potassium Channel (Murine Kir2.1)

pKa with mutants (D172H, D172K and D172R), the more frequent the transitions between the fully open state and substate within an opening. The conductance of the substate also depended upon the pKa or the size of the side chain. The relative occupancy at substate SLC with monomer D172K (0.50) was less than that in K-H dimer (0.83). However, the relative occupancy at substate with D172R (0.79) was similar to that with R-N dimer (0.82). In the contrary to ROMK1, positive charge as well as negative... -

on the vestibular function recovery following unilateral labyrinthectomy (UL) were studied. Sprague-Dawley male rats, treated with nitric oxide liberating agent sodium nitroprusside (SNP) and NOS inhibitor NG-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME), were subjected to destruction of the unilateral vestibular apparatus, and then spontaneous nystagmus was observed in the rat. To explore the effects of nitric oxide on the neuronal excitability, whole cell patch clamp technique was applied on isolated... -

stored Ca2 and the inhibition of N-type Ca2 channels, respectively, in rat prostate neuroendocrine cells (RPNECs). In this study, the effects of NA on the resting membrane potential (RMP) of RPNECs were investigated using a whole-cell patch clamp method. Fresh RPNECs were dissociated from the ventral lobe of rat prostate and identified from its characteristic shape; round or oval shape with dark cytoplasm. Under zero-current clamp conditions with KCl pipette solution, the resting... -

that K efflux evoked by muscarinic stimulation is not mainly mediated by large conductance K (BK) channels in salivary gland. In this experiment, we therefore characterised non BK channels in rat submandibular gland acinar cells and examined the possibility of agonist effect on this channel using a patch clamp technique. Two types of K channels were observed in these cells. BK channels were observed in 3 cells from total 6 cells and its average conductance was 152⁑7 pS... -
Changes in Excitability of Neurons in Rat Medial Vestibular Nucleus Following Vestibular Neurectomy

h post UVD. The spontaneous discharge rate of neurons in the ipsilesional MVN increased significantly at 2 h post-UVD and remained high until 12 h post-UVD in both type A and type B cells. After-hyperpolarization (AHP) of the MVN neurons decreased significantly from 2 h post-UVD in both types of cells. These results suggest that the early stage of vestibular compensation after peripheral neurectomy is associated with an increase in intrinsic excitability due to reduction of AHP in MVN neurons. -

fiber pathway has not been physiologically established. The aims of the present study were to investigate whether there are IO neurons specifically responding to horizontal rotation and also in which subregions of IO complex these vestibularly-activated neurons are located. The extracellular recording was made in 68 IO neurons and responses of 46 vestibularly-activated cells were analyzed. Most of the vestibularly-activated IO neurons responded to signals of vertical rotation (roll), while a... -

measuring intracellular Ca2 concentration ([Ca2]i) with fura 2-AM and reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). LPC increased [Ca2]i under the condition of 1.5 mM [Ca2]o but did not show any effect under the nominally Ca2-free condition. Even after the store depletion with 30μM 2,5-di-tert- butylhydroquinone (BHQ) or 30μM ATP, LPC could still increase the [Ca2]i under the condition of 1.5 mM [Ca2]o. The time required to increase...
