The Role of Janus Kinase in Superoxide-mediated Proliferation of Diabetic Vascular Smooth Muscle Cells
JiYoungLee, JiYoungPark, ChiDaeKim 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2007, Vol.11 No.1 5 31-36 (6 pages)
(FBS) and superoxide generation with an increased NAD(P)H oxidase activity were observed in diabetic (OLETF) VSMC. Both the enhanced proliferation and superoxide generation in diabetic VSMC were significantly attenuated by AG490, JAK2 inhibitor, and PP2, Src kinase inhibitor. Tyrosine phosphorylation of proteins in diabetic VSMC, especially JAK2, was increased compared to control VSMC. Furthermore, the enhanced NAD(P)H oxidase activity in diabetic VSMC was significantly attenuated by AG490 in a... -
Upregulation of Renin-angiotensin, Endothelin and C-type Natriuretic Peptide in Rat Glomerulus with Bilateral Ureteral Obstruction
EunHuiBae, SooWanKim 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages

ET-1 were increased, while that of angiotensin converting enzyme 2 was not changed. The expressions of CYP11B2 and angiotensin II receptors were not changed. C-type natriuretic peptide (CNP) expression was increased, while its receptors (natriuretic peptide receptor-B) were not changed. We suggest that the upregulation of local RAS and ET play a role in the progressive glomerular injury, and that the enhanced CNP activity also plays a compensatory role in obstructive uropathy in the glomerulus. -
Alteration of Nitric Oxide Synthase and Guanylyl Cyclase Activity in Rats with Ischemia/Reperfusion Renal Injury

with decreased urine osmolality. The expression of inducible NOS (iNOS) was increased in I/R injury rats compared with controls, while endothelial NOS (eNOS) and neuronal NOS (nNOS) expression was decreased. The urinary excretion of NO metabolites was decreased in I/R injury rats. The cGMP production provoked by SNP was decreased in the papilla, but not in glomerulus. These results indicate an altered regulation of NOS expression and guanylyl cyclase activity in I/R-induced nephropathy. -

the nitric oxide (NO)-induced cytotoxic mechanism in PC12 cells. Sodium nitroprusside (SNP), an NO donor, decreased the viability of PC12 cells in dose- and time- dependent manners. SNP enhanced the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), and gave rise to apoptotic morphological changes including cell shrinkage, chromatin condensation, and DNA fragmentation. Expression of Bax was not affected, whereas Bcl-2 was downregulated in SNP-treated PC12 cells. SNP augmented the release of cytochrome... -

in a dose- and time-dependent manner. NaF gave rise to apoptotic morphological changes including cell shrinkage, chromatin condensation, and DNA fragmentation. However, NaF did not affect the production of ROS. In addition, NaF augumented cytochrome c release from mitochondria into the cytosol, and enhanced caspase -9 and -3 activities., cleavage (85 kDa fragments) of poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) and upregulation of voltage-dependent anion channel (VDAC) 1. These results demonstrated that... -
Calcium Ions are Involved in Modulation of Melittin-induced Nociception in Rat: I. Effect of Voltage-gated Calcium Channel Antagonist
HongKeeShin, KyungHeeLee 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2006, Vol.10 No.5 6 255-262 (8 pages)
Melittin-induced nociceptive responses are mediated by selective activation of capsaicin-sensitive primary afferent fibers and are modulated by excitatory amino acid receptor, cyclooxygenase, protein kinase C and serotonin receptor. The present study was undertaken to investigate the peripheral and spinal actions of voltage-gated calcium channel antagonists on melittin-induced nociceptive responses. Changes in mechanical threshold and number of flinchings were measured after intraplantar (i.pl.)... -

This study was designed to investigate the expression and production of interleukin-1beta (IL-1β) in human peripheral blood of trained runners and untrained controls after temporary moderate intensity exercise. Male long-distance trained runners (TR) and untrained sedentary control subjects (SED) ran for 1 h at 70% of heart rate reserve (HRR). IL-1β gene and protein expressions were significantly higher in TR than those with SED at all 3 intervals examined independently. Significant increases... -
Neurovascular Mechanisms in Stroke, Neurodegeneration and Recovery
EngH.Lo 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2006, Vol.10 No.5 1 223-230 (8 pages)
The emerging concept of the“neurovascular unit”may enable a powerful paradigm shift for neuroscience. Instead of a pure focus on the“neurobiology”of disease, an opportunity now exists to return to a more integrative approach. The neurovascular unit emphasizes that signaling between vascular and neuronal compartments comprise the basis for both function and dysfunction in brain. Hence, brain disorders are not just due to death of neurons, but instead manifested as cell signaling perturbations... -

JuHeeYou, SungsuLee, EunHuiBae, SeongKwonMa, SooWanKim, JongUnLee 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 4 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2006, Vol.10 No.4 8 213-216 (4 pages)
The present study was aimed to determine whether nitric oxide (NO) plays a role in the regulation of aquaporin (AQP) channels in the kidney. Male Brattleboro rats (250∼300 g body weight) were used. The experimental group was treated with NG-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME, 100 mg/L drinking water) for 1 week, and cotreated with indomethacin (5 mg/kg, twice a day, i.p.) for the last two days. Control groups were treated with either L-NAME for 1 week, indomethacin for 2 days, or without any... -
Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors Attenuate Cytotoxicity of 1-Methyl-4-phenylpyridinium by Suppressing Mitochondrial Permeability Transition
ChungSooLee 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2006, Vol.10 No.4 7 207-212 (6 pages)
Mitochondrial permeability transition has been shown to be involved in neuronal cell death. Mitochondrial monoamine oxidase (MAO)-B is considered to play a part in the progress of nigrostriatal cell death. The present study examined the effect of MAO inhibitors against the toxicity of 1-methyl-4- phenylpyridinium (MPP) in relation to the mitochondrial permeability transition. Chlorgyline (a selective inhibitor of MAO-A), deprenyl (a selective inhibitor of MAO-B) and tranylcypromine (non-...
