Biologically activated graphite fiber electrode for autotrophic acetate production from CO2 in a bioelectrochemical system

the bacterial enrichment method [6-8]. On the other hand, the interaction between microorganism and carbon materials is still unknown, which is the main factor limiting further improvement of the performance of the MES process. For example, insufficient information about microbe-carbon interactions is delaying the advance of the process significantly when the input potential is 410 mV vs standard hydrogen electrode (SHE), which is the theoretical minimum potential for hydrogen production [9]. -
Nanoporous carbon synthesized from grass for removal and recovery of hexavalent chromium

to Langmuir isotherm model with maximum monolayer adsorption capacity of 35.335 mg/g. The results indicated that removal obeys a pseudo-second-order kinetic model, and that equilibrium was reached in 10 min. A desorption study was done using NaOH. The results of the present study imply that acid functionalized nanoporous carbon synthesized from grass is an efficient, renewable, cost-effective adsorbent material for removal of hexavalent chromium due to its faster removal rate and reusability. -
The effect of the spinning conditions on the structure of mesophase pitch-based carbon fibers by Taguchi method

and an increased extrusion pressure. The winding speed was found to be the most significant factor in relation to the fiber diameter. While it was observed that thicker carbon fiber generally shows improved preferred orientation, the most important variable affecting the preferred orientation was found to be the entry angle. As the entry angle decreased from 120° to 60°, the shear flow was enhanced to induce more ordered radial alignment of crystallite planes so as to obtain carbon fibers with... -
Rate-capability response of graphite anode materials in advanced energy storage systems: a structural comparison
Umer Farooq, Chil-Hoon Doh, Syed Atif Pervez, Doo-Hun Kim, Sang-Hoon Lee, Mohsin Saleem, Seong-Ju Sim, Jeong-Hee Choi 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 6 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2016, Vol.17 No.1 6 39-44 (6 pages)
The work presented in this report was a detailed comparative study of the electrochemical response exhibited by graphite anodes in Li-ion batteries having different physical features. A comprehensive morphological and physical characterization was carried out for these graphite samples via X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. Later, the electrochemical performance was analyzed using galvanostatic charge/discharge testing and the galvanostatic intermittent titration technique for... -
Effects of cross-linking methods for polyethylene-based carbon fibers: review

and the use of CFRP has been impeded by the high cost of CF in various applications. This paper presents an overview of research related to the fabrication of low cost CF using polyethylene (PE) control technology, and identifies areas requiring additional research and development. It critically reviews the results of cross-linked PE control technology studies, and the development of promising control technologies, including acid, peroxide, radiation and silane cross-linking methods. -
Removal of methylene blue using lemon grass ash as an adsorbent
Harminder Singh, Dawa Tshering B 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 8 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2014, Vol.15 No.2 6 105-112 (8 pages)
of water pollution and high cost for treatment processes, the use of an inexpensive and environmentally benign adsorbents has been studied. The objective was to find a better alternative to the conventional methods. Lemon grass waste (ash) collected from a lemon grass stream distillation subunit in Bhutan was tested for dye removal from aqueous solutions. The study investigated the removal of methylene blue using the following operational parameters: initial concentration (100-600 mg/L), contact... -
Hierarchical porous carbon nanofibers via electrospinning
Aikifa Raza, Jiaqi Wang, Shan Yang, Yang Si, Bin Ding 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 14 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2014, Vol.15 No.1 1 1-14 (14 pages)
Carbon nanofibers (CNFs) with diameters in the submicron and nanometer range exhibit high specific surface area, hierarchically porous structure, flexibility, and super strength which allow them to be used in the electrode materials of energy storage devices, and as hybrid-type filler in carbon fiber reinforced plastics and bone tissue scaffold. Unlike catalytic synthesis and other methods, electrospinning of various polymeric precursors followed by stabilization and carbonization has become a... -
