The distribution of the nerve growth factor (NGF), the glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) and the ciliary neurotrohic factor (CNTF) was performed in coronal sections of the mesencephalon, rhombencephalon and spinal cord in the developing Mongolian gerbils. Generally, NGF specifically recognizes neurons with the NGF receptor, whereas GFAP does the glia, and CNTF does the motor neurons. The receptor expression was examined separately in gerbils between embryonic days 15 (E15) and postnatal... -

Striatum is involved in the control of movement and habitual memory. It receives glutamatergic input from wide area of the cerebral cortex as well as an extensive serotonergic (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT) input from the raphe nuclei. In our study, the effects of 5-HT on synaptic transmission were studied in the rat corticostriatal brain slice using in vitro whole-cell recording technique. 5-HT inhibited the amplitude as well as frequency of spontaneous excitatory postsynaptic currents (sEPSC)... -

The purpose of the present study was to elucidate the possible involvement of the medial vestibular nucleus (MVN) and inferior vestibular nucleus (IVN) following acute hypotension in the vestibulo- autonomic reflex through vestibulosolitary or vestibuloventrolateral projections. Acute hypotension- induced cFos expression was assessed in combination with retrograde cholera toxin B subunit (CTb) tract tracing. After injection of CTb into the solitary region, CTb-labeled neurons were located... -
Neuronal Activity of the Vestibular Nuclei Following Acute Hypotension in Rats

The role of peripheral vestibular receptors in acute hypotension was investigated in anesthetized rats. Acute hypotension was induced by either intravenous infusion of sodium nitroprusside (SNP) or by experimental hemorrhage, and electrical activity and expression of cFos-like immunoreactive (cFL) protein were measured in the medial vestibular nuclei (MVN). Blood pressure decreased proportionately to the does of intravenous SNP and to the volume of the hemorrhage. Blood pressure decreased 10,...
