Rabies is a major fatal zoonotic disease in Indonesia. This study was conducted to determine the recent dynamics of rabies virus (RABV) in various areas and animal species throughout Indonesia. A total of 27 brain samples collected from rabid animals of various species in Bali, Sumatra, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Java, and Flores in 2008 to 2010 were investigated. The cDNA of the nucleoprotein gene from each sample was generated and amplified by one-step reverse transcription-PCR, after which the... -

Odontoglossum ringspot virus (ORSV) is a member of the genus Tobamovirus. It is one of the most prevalent viruses infecting orchids worldwide. Earlier studies reported the genetic variability of ORSV isolates from Korea and China. However, the evolutionary rate, timescale, and phylogeographical analyses of ORSV were unclear. Twenty-one coat protein (CP) gene sequences of ORSV were determined in this study, and used them together with 145 CP sequences obtained from GenBank to infer the genetic... -
Biogenic Volatile Compounds for Plant Disease Diagnosis and Health Improvement

Plants and microorganisms (microbes) use information from chemicals such as volatile compounds to understand their environments. Proficiency in sensing and responding to these infochemicals increases an organism’s ecological competence and ability to survive in competitive environments, particularly with regard to plant-pathogen interactions. Plants and microbes acquired the ability to sense and respond to biogenic volatiles during their evolutionary history. However, these signals can only be... -

were determined and compared with the homologous sequences in Genbank. No recombination evidence was found in the isolates using different recombination- detecting programs. In the phylogenetic tree, the potato isolates fell into two major groups: IRN- 1 and IRN-2 corresponding to the two biologically separated groups. This study shows for the first time the biological and phylogenetic relationships of geographically distant TYFRV isolates from potatoes in the mid- Eurasian country of Iran. -

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of eco-education by hands-on natural activities on the prosocial behavior of toddlers. The subjects in this study were 14 toddlers at a daycare center in the city of Y, South Jeolla Province. An experiment was implemented in 20 sessions, and the findings of the study were as follows: First, the eco-education by hands-on natural activities served to boost the prosocial behavior of the toddlers. Second, the eco- education by hands-on natural... -
