a body part noun function as reflexive predicates. Thus, an analysis employing null SE with complex predicate formation was proposed. However, this null SE analysis turns out to be unsatisfactory and an alternative analysis is proposed in this paper. Observing that the possessor of body part noun requires a c-commanding antecedent in the binding domain. Assuming that PRO occupies the specifier position of body part nouns, the presence of the two distinctive possessor interpretations is accounted... -

Languages like Korean allow bare body-part nouns and bare kinship nouns in the inalienable possession structures, while languages like English require a pronominal possessive to express inalienable possession. Since such cross-linguistic differences are expected to affect the interlanguage grammar, this paper explored the production data from Korean speaking learners of English. The results show that lower proficiency learners were influenced by their L1, while higher proficiency learners... -

both nominal and the verbal reflexives like Telugu and Kannada. In languages that use both the nominal reflexive system and the verbal reflexive system, the verbal reflexive system preempts the reflexive interpretation process. In situations where the verbal reflexive system fails, the nominal reflexive system takes charge of the reflexive interpretation. Thus, both systems exist independently in natural languages and the reflexivity resides on nominal reflexives as well as on verbal reflexives. -

This study aims to explore how second language learners’ performance in grammaticality judgment tests (GJTs) vary according to task stimulus and time constraint. Native speakers and learners of English read grammatical and ungrammatical sentences in timed and untimed settings. They were asked to judge the grammaticality of given sentences. In order to investigate the participants’ online behaviors while performing the tasks, eye-tracking methodology was employed. In addition to their... -

logophoric properties. In VP ellipsis context, however, both strict and sloppy interpretations are available. Assuming a reflexive PRO must be distinguished from a pronominal PRO, it is argued that core kinship nouns bear a reflexive PRO as its implicit argument and that the reflexive argument has logophoric properties. The extended kinship nouns such as halmeni ‘grandmother’, or hyeong ‘elder brother’, employ a pronominal PRO as their implicit argument, losing logophoric characteristics. -
