Michel Vandenbroeck 환태평양유아교육연구학회 Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 20 Pages

for diversity and their consequences for the professionalization of the early years workforce. Professionalism needs to be understood as systemic and reflective. This may be in tension with evidence-based practice, as the latter leads to standardization and prescription, reducing the discretionary space of professionals. Moreover, evidence-based practice may represent serious democratic deficits, excluding children and parents from the societal debate about what early childhood education is for. -

50-60 minutes each time. I collected the data in three different ways: field notes, audio recordings, and video recordings. Data was analyzed according to five mathematical concepts: number and operation, space and shape, measurement, pattern and data analysis and probability. Based on the results of this study, children mainly experienced and developed mathematical concepts of ‘number and operation’, ‘space and shape’ and ‘measurement’ while role-playing in a spaceship and a fruit store. -

her presence in the room and social preferences for the people also appeared to change. The infant seemed to enjoy more playbased and group interactions with both peers and caregivers rather than emotion-based and dyadic interactions. The results of this study provided an insight into the multifaceted relationship development process, such as the connection between infant development and relationships and the association between infant-caregiver relationships and infant peer relationships. -

환태평양유아교육연구학회 Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2011, Vol.5 No.1 5 91-122 (32 pages)
Singapore Ministry of Education’s policy change in relation to the preschool curriculum, have been geared towards more child-centred teaching with an emphasis on play. and which, as a result, are endangered. The Preschool in Three Cultures Revisited study includes examples of such implicit cultural beliefs and practices in Chinese, Japanese, and US preschools. The paper argues that early childhood practitioners, policy makers, and scholars should give greater value to these cultural beliefs and practices and think of them as national treasures and as endangered educational ecology which it is our responsibility to protect and pass on to the next generation. -

Chinese concept of “He” or Harmony is instrumental in understanding “unity in diversity”. Harmony presupposes the existence of differences. Early childhood education in the Asian Pacific regions can be different and yet harmonious. By sharing latest research and teaching experience among early childhood professionals in an international platform such as PECERA, they can be united by vigorously proven theories and the most effective pedagogies, and it is achieved in a supportive environment. -

This qualitative study explored Early Childhood practitioners’ (n = 17) beliefs about risk-taking and their provision of ‘risky’ play opportunities in the outdoor environment. The findings suggest that from a pedagogical perspective, practitioners believe opportunities for risk-taking are important for all aspects of children’s development however... -
