대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2018, 제 19권 제 4호 3 492-499 (8 pages)
Due to their similarities with humans in anatomy, physiology, and genetics miniature pigs are becoming an attractive model for biomedical research. We aim to establish and evaluate blood type O cells derived from Korean native pig (KNP), a typical miniature pig breed in Korea. Ten cell lines derived from 8 KNP piglets and one adult female KNP (kidney and ear tissues) were established. To confirm the presence of blood type O, genomic DNA, fucosyltransferase (FUT) expression, and... -
Porcine intestinal lymphoid tissues synthesize estradiol

level in serum. Reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction showed that porcine intestinal lymphoid tissues express mRNAs for steroidogenic enzymes (StAR, 17-Hsd, 3-Hsd, Cyp17a1, and Cyp19a1), and immunohistochemical results in ilial tissue showed expression of aromatase (CYP19) in Peyer’s patch-localized endothelial cells of HEVs. When mesenteric lymph node and Peyer’s patch tissues were cultured in vitro, they produced estradiol. Taken together, the results indicate that... -
Identification and characterization of atypical porcine pestivirus genomes in newborn piglets with congenital tremor in China
Hanqin Shen, Xiangcong Liu, Pengfei Zhang, Lei Wang, Yanling Liu, Leyi Zhang, Pengshuai Liang, Changxu Song 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 4 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2018, 제 19권 제 3호 17 468-471 (4 pages)
Recently, a novel atypical porcine pestivirus (APPV) in pig was reported. In this study, two APPV strains, APPV-China/GZ01/2016 (GZ01) and APPV-China/GD-SD/2016 (GD-SD), were identified in two newborn piglet herds with congenital tremor from China. The open reading frame of the two strains shared an 83.5% nucleotide identity. Phylogenetically, the APPV strains were placed into two groups: GZ01 belonged to group I and GD-SD belonged to group II. A high viral load was detected in the cerebellum... -
Production of transgenic pigs using a pGFAP-CreERT2/EGFP LoxP inducible system for central nervous system disease models

piglets at 115 days after pregnancy. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) analysis with genomic DNA isolated from skin tissues of TG pigs revealed that all 5 TG pigs had the transgenes. EGFP expression in all organs tested was confirmed by immunofluorescence staining and PCR. Real-time PCR analysis showed that pGFAP promoter-driven Cre fused to the mutated human ligand-binding domain of the estrogen receptor (CreERT2) mRNA was highly expressed in the cerebrum. Semi-nested PCR analysis revealed that... -
Effect of immunization routes and protective efficacy of Brucella antigens delivered via Salmonella vector vaccine

An anti-Brucella vaccine candidate comprised of purified Brucella lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and a cocktail of four Salmonella Typhimurium (ST)-Brucella vectors was reported previously. Each vector constitutively expressed highly conserved Brucella antigens (rB), viz., lumazine synthase (BLS), proline racemase subunit A, outer membrane protein-19 (Omp19), and Cu-Zn superoxide dismutase (SOD). The present study determined a relative level of protection conferred by each single strain. Upon virulent... -
Identification, sequence analysis, and infectivity of H9N2 avian influenza viruses isolated from geese
Rui Zhu, Xueqin Yang, Jianjun Zhang, Danwen Xu, Jiawen Fan, Huoying Shi, Shifeng Wang, Xiufan Liu 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 10 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2018, 제 19권 제 3호 10 406-415 (10 pages)
The subtype H9N2 avian influenza virus greatly threatens the Chinese poultry industry, even with annual vaccination. Waterfowl can be asymptomatically infected with the H9N2 virus. In this study, three H9N2 virus strains, designated A/Goose/Jiangsu/YZ527/2011 (H9N2, Gs/JS/YZ527/11), A/Goose/Jiangsu/SQ119/2012 (H9N2, Gs/JS/SQ119/12), and A/Goose/Jiangsu/JD564/2012 (H9N2, Gs/JS/JD564/12), were isolated from domestic geese. Molecular characterization of the three isolates showed that the... -
Toward the development of a one-dose classical swine fever subunit vaccine
Rachel F. Madera, Lihua Wang, Wenjie Gong, Yulia Burakova, Sterling Buist, Jerome Nietfeld, Jamie Henningson, Ada G. Cino-Ozuna, Changch 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 13 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2018, 제 19권 제 3호 9 393-405 (13 pages)
Highly contagious classical swine fever (CSF) remains a major trade and health problem in the pig industry, resulting in large economic losses worldwide. In CSF-endemic countries, attenuated CSF virus (CSFV) vaccines have been routinely used to control the disease. However, eradication of CSFV in a geographical area would require permanent reduction to zero presence of the virus. It is therefore of paramount importance to develop a safe, potent, and non-infectious CSF vaccine. We have previously... -

or rejection and the safety of xenotransplantation. No significant difference in PERV gag RNA level between transgenic and non-transgenic pigs was noted; likewise, the type of applied transgene had no impact on PERV viremia. SLA-1 gene profile type may correspond with PERV level in blood and thereby influence infectiveness. Screening of pigs should provide selection of animals with low PERV expression and exclusion of specimens with PERV-C in the genome due to possible recombination between A... -
Marek’s disease vaccine activates chicken macrophages
Dan Wang, Shuhong Sun, Mohammad Heidari 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 9 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2018, 제 19권 제 3호 7 375-383 (9 pages)
To provide insights into the role of innate immune responses in vaccine-mediated protection, we investigated the effect of Marek’s disease (MD) vaccine, CVI988/Rispens, on the expression patterns of selected genes associated with activation of macrophages in MD-resistant and MD-susceptible chicken lines. Upregulation of interferon , interleukin (IL)-1, IL-8, and IL-12 at different days post-inoculation (dpi) revealed activation of macrophages in both chicken lines. A strong... -
Genomic characterization and pathogenic study of two porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome viruses with different virulence in Fujian, China

Two strains of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) were isolated in 2006 and 2016 and designated as FZ06A and FZ16A, respectively. Inoculation experiments showed that FZ06A caused 100% morbidity and 60% mortality, while FZ16A caused 100% morbidity without death. By using genomic sequence and phylogenetic analyses, close relationships between a Chinese highly pathogenic PRRSV strain and the FZ06A and FZ16A strains were observed. Based on the achieved results, multiple...
