Peptidoglycan Induces the Production of Interleukin-8 via Calcium Signaling in Human Gingival Epithelium

대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2015, Vol.19 No.1 8 51-58 (8 pages)
The etiology of periodontal disease is multifactorial. Exogenous stimuli such as bacterial pathogens can interact with toll-like receptors to activate intracellular calcium signaling in gingival epithelium and other tissues. The triggering of calcium signaling induces the secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as interleukin-8 as part of the inflammatory response; however, the exact mechanism of calcium signaling induced by bacterial toxins when gingival epithelial cells are exposed to... -

To study the direct effect of somatostatin (SS) on calcium channel current (IBa) in guinea-pig gastric myocytes, IBa was recorded by using whole-cell patch clamp technique in single smooth muscle cells. Nicardipine (1μM), a L-type Ca2+ channel blocker, inhibited IBa by 98⁑1.9% (n=5), however IBa was decreased in a reversible manner by application of SS. The peak IBa at 0 mV were decreased to 95⁑1.1, 92⁑1.9, 82⁑4.0, 66⁑5.8, 10⁑2.9% at 1010, 109,... -
The Regulation of AP-1 DNA Binding Activity by Long-term Nicotine Stimulation in Bovine Adrenal Medullary Chromaffin Cells Role of Second Messengers

The signal pathways involved in the regulation of AP-1 DNA binding activity in long-term nicotine stimulated bovine adrenal medullary chromaffin (BAMC) cells have not been well characterized. To understand the involvement of second messengers in the regulation of AP-1 DNA binding activity, the present study was designed to define the time-course for inhibition of nicotine-induced responses by cholinergic antagonists, Ca2 and calmodulin (CaM) antagonists, and calcium/calmodulin-dependent... -
Nimodipine as a Potential Pharmacological Tool for Characterizing R-Type Calcium Currents
SeogBaeOh 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 9 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2001, Vol.5 No.6 8 511-519 (9 pages)
Nimopidine, one of dihydropyridine derivatives, has been widely used to pharmacologically identify L-type Ca currents. In this study, it was tested if nimodipine is a selective blocker for L-type Ca currents in sensory neurons and heterologous system. In mouse dorsal root ganglion neurons (DRG), low concentrations of nimodipine (<10μM), mainly targeting L-type Ca currents, blocked high-voltage-activated calcium channel currents by ∼38%. Interestingly, high concentrations of nimodipine... -
N-Type Calcium Channels

대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2000, Vol.4 No.6 12 525-530 (6 pages)
The early studies of cardiac and smooth muscle cells provided evidence for two different calcium channels, the L-type (also called high-voltage activated [HVA]) and the T-type (low-voltage activated [LVA]). These calcium channels provided calcium for muscle contractions and pace-making activities. As might be expected, the number of different calcium channels increased when researchers studied neurons and the identification of the neuronal calcium channel has proven to be much more difficult... -
Regulatory Action of Protein Tyrosine Kinase in Intracellular Calcium Mobilization in C5a-stimulated Neutrophils

The present study was done to examine the involvement of protein kinase C and protein tyrosine kinase in intracellular Ca2+ mobilization in C5a-stimulated neutrophils. Although protein kinase C inhibitors, staurosporine and H-7 inhibited intracellular Ca2+ release in C5a-stimulated neutrophils, they did not affect Ca2+ influx across the plasma membrane and elevation of [Ca2+]i C5a-induced intracellular Ca2+ release and Ca2+ influx were inhibited by protein tyrosine kinase inhibitors, genistein... -
Ca-dependent Alteration in Basal Tone, Basal 45Ca Uptake and 3H-nitrendipine Binding in the Aorta of Spontaneously Hypertensive Rats
Chang, Seok-Jong, Jeon, Byeong-Hwa, Kim, Hoe-Suk 대한생리학회 대한생리학회지 10 Pages
대한생리학회 대한생리학회지 1994, 제 28권 제 1호 3 27-36 (10 pages)
We investigated the alterations in basal tone of aortic strips by changing the Ca concentration, basal 45Ca uptake and 3H-nitrendipine binding of the single cells of aortic smooth muscles in the spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) and Wistar-Kyoto (WKY) rats. While the basal tone of the aortic strips in WKY rats was not affected by alteration of Ca concentration, that in SHR was decreased by the removal of Ca from the bath solution and was recovered by the restoration of Ca to normal levels.... -
Regulatory Action of ß-adrenergic Agonist and 8-bromocyclic AMP on Calcium Currents in the Unfertilized Mouse Eggs

There are many report suggesting that influx and intracellular calcium concentration ([Ca2+]i) are related to cell signalling in various cells. However, it has not been reported that calcium channel activation is affected by the substances involved in signal transduction pathways in the mouse eggs. In this study, the effects of isoprenaline (ISP) and cyclic AMP on calcium influx through calcium channels were investigated to show their relationship with the signal transduction process in... -

Permissive action of thyroid hormone at the level of Ca channel and responsible mechanisms underlying thyroid hormone-induced change in myocardial contractile state and T3-induced arrhythmias were investigated in rabbit ventricular or atrial myocytes using whole cell patch clamp technique. Single cells were isolated by Langendorff perfusion with collagenase. Cardiac myocytes were incubated in low-Cl-,, high-K+ medium containing 1μM L-triiodothyronine (T3) at 4℃ for 2.10 hours. The calcium...
