The Role of the Pattern Edge in Goldfish Visual Motion Detection
Sun-HeeKim, Chang-SubJung 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 5 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2010, Vol.14 No.6 10 413-417 (5 pages)
To understand the function of edges in perception of moving objects, we defined four questions to answer. Is the focus point in visual motion detection of a moving object: (1) the body or the edge of the object, (2) the leading edge or trailing edge of the object, (3) different in scotopic, mesopic and photopic luminance levels, or (4) different for colored objects? We measured the Optomotor Response (OMR) and Edge Triggering Response (ETR) of goldfish. We used a square and sine wave patterns... -
Sigma-1 Receptor Antagonist BD1047 Reduces Allodynia and Spinal ERK Phosphorylation Following Chronic Compression of Dorsal Root Ganglion in Rats
JiSeonSon, YoungBaeKwon 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2010, Vol.14 No.6 2 359-364 (6 pages)
rat model of chronic compression of the dorsal root ganglion (CCD), which is a model of human foraminal stenosis and radicular pain. When stainless steel rods were inserted into the intervertebral foramen of lumbar vertebrae 4 and 5, the CCD developed reliable mechanical (from 3 day) and cold allodynia (from 1 day) as compared with the sham operation group. The spinal expressions of Sig-1R and phosphorylation of extracellular signal-regulated kinase (pERK) were significantly increased from day 3... -
P2X and P2Y Receptors Mediate Contraction Induced by Electrical Field Stimulation in Feline Esophageal Smooth Muscle
YoungRaeCho, HyeonSoonJang, WonKim, SunYoungPark, UyDongSohn 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2010, Vol.14 No.5 10 311-316 (6 pages)
It is well-known that electrical field stimulation (EFS)-induced contraction is mediated by a cholinergic mechanism and other neurotransmitters. NO, ATP, calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP), and substance P are released by EFS. To investigate the purinergic mechanism involved in the EFS-induced contraction, purinegic receptors antagonists were used. Suramine, a non-selective P2 receptor antagonist, reduced the contraction induced by EFS. NF023 (10−7∼10−4 M), a selective P2X... -
Polyphenols of Rubus coreanum Inhibit Catecholamine Secretion from the Perfused Adrenal Medulla of SHRs

medulla of the spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs), and to establish its mechanism of action. PCRC (20∼180Ռg/ml) perfused into an adrenal vein for 90 min relatively dose-dependently inhibited the CA secretory responses to ACh (5.32 mM), high K+ (56 mM), DMPP (100ՌM) and McN-A-343 (100ՌM). PCRC itself did not affect basal CA secretion (data not shown). Also, in the presence of PCRC (60Ռg/ml), the CA secretory responses to veratridine (a selective Na+ channel activat... -
Intraocular Injection of Muscimol Induces Illusory Motion Reversal in Goldfish
Sang-YoonLee, Chang-SubJung 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 5 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2009, Vol.13 No.6 10 469-473 (5 pages)
Induced activation of the gamma-aminobutyric acidA (GABAA) receptor in the retina of goldfish caused the fish to rotate in the opposite direction to that of the spinning pattern during an optomotor response (OMR) measurement. Muscimol, a GABAA receptor agonist, modified OMR in a concentration- dependent manner. The GABAB receptor agonist baclofen and GABAC receptor agonist CACA did not affect OMR. The observed modifications in OMR included decreased anterograde rotation... -
Electrically-evoked Neural Activities of rd1 Mice Retinal Ganglion Cells by Repetitive Pulse Stimulation

RGC firing rates while increasing the pulse frequency from 1 to 10 pulses per second (or Hz) to deduce the optimal pulse frequency range for modulation of RGC response strength. RGC response strength monotonically and linearly increased within the stimulation frequency of 1∼9 Hz. The results suggest that the evoked neural activities of RGCs in degenerated retina can be reliably controlled by pulse frequency modulation, and may be used as a stimulation strategy for visual neural prosthesis. -
Provinol Inhibits Catecholamine Secretion from the Rat Adrenal Medulla

from isolated perfused rat adrenal medulla, and to elucidate its mechanism of action. Provinol (0.3∼3Ռg/ml) perfused into an adrenal vein for 90 min dose- and time-dependently inhibited the CA secretory responses evoked by ACh (5.32 mM), high K+ (a direct membrane-depolarizer, 56 mM), DMPP (a selective neuronal nicotinic NN receptor agonist, 100ՌM) and McN-A-343 (a selective muscarinic M1 receptor agonist, 100ՌM). Provinol itself did not affect basal CA secretion. Also, in... -
Deficiency of iNOS Does Not Prevent Isoproterenol-induced Cardiac Hypertrophy in Mice
Hye-NaCha, Geu-RuHong, Yong-WoonKim, Jong-YeonKim, Jin-MyoungDan, So-YoungPark 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 7 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2009, Vol.13 No.3 3 153-159 (7 pages)
We investigated whether deficiency of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) could prevent isoproterenol-induced cardiac hypertrophy in iNOS knockout (KO) mice. Isoproterenol was continuously infused subcutaneously (15 mg/kg/day) using an osmotic minipump. Isoproterenol reduced body weight and fat mass in both iNOS KO and wild-type mice compared with saline-infused wild-type mice. Isoproterenol increased the heart weight in both iNOS KO and wild-type mice but there was no difference between iNOS... -
Role of Dopamine Receptors on Electroencephalographic Changes Produced by Repetitive Apomorphine Treatments in Rats

of all the frequency bands in the single treatment group, and increased the theta (4.5∼8 Hz) and alpha (8∼13 Hz) powers in the repeated treatment group. Changes in both groups were reversed to the control values by SCH-23390. On the parietal cortex, single apomorphine treatment decreased the power of some frequency bands, which were reversed by haloperidol but not by SCH-23390. Repeated apomorphine treatment did not produce significant changes in the power profile. These results show that... -
Long-term Follow-up of Cutaneous Hypersensitivity in Rats with a Spinal Cord Contusion

of the hindpaw, and the withdrawal frequency to the application of acetone was measured before and after a spinal contusion. The spinal cord contusion was produced by dropping a 10 g weight from a 6.25 and 12.5 mm height using a NYU impactor. After the injury, rats showed a decreased withdrawal threshold to von Frey stimulation, indicating the development of mechanical allodynia which persisted for 30 weeks. The withdrawal threshold between the two experimental groups was similar. The response...
