Production of Surfactin and Iturin by Bacillus licheniformis N1 Responsible for Plant Disease Control Activity
The Plant Pathology Journal 8 Pages
10 170-177 (8 pages)
Bacillus licheniformis N1, previously developed as a biofungicide formulation N1E to control gray mold disease of plants, was investigated to study the bacterial traits that may be involved in its biological control activity. Two N1E based formulations, bacterial cell based formulation PN1E and culture supernatant based formulation SN1E, were evaluated for disease control activity against gray mold disease of tomato and strawberry plants. Neither PN1E nor SN1E was as effective as the original... -
Phenotypic and Genotypic Analysis of Rice Lesion Mimic Mutants
The Plant Pathology Journal 11 Pages
9 159-169 (11 pages)
Lesion mimic mutant (LMM) plants display spontaneous necrotic lesions on their leaves without any pathogenic infection. Specific rice LMMs designated as spotted leaf (spl) including spl1, spl3, spl4, spl5 and spl6 are genetically known as lesion resembling disease (lrd) mutant. The inheritance patterns in the F1 and F2 progenies of these mutants are controlled by recessive genetic factors. Lesion development in the rice LMMs were controlled by both development stages and environmental factors.... -
Screening of Rice Blast Resistance Genes from Aromatic Rice Germplasms with SNP Markers
The Plant Pathology Journal 10 Pages
10 70-79 (10 pages)
Rice blast is one of the serious devastating diseases. This study was carried out to determine the genetic diversities of blast resistance (R) genes form 86 accessions of aromatic rice with eight SNP markers, z4792, zt4792, z60510, zt6057, k6415, k6411, k39575 and t256, which showed the close-set linkage to 6 major genes, Piz, Piz-t, Pik, Pik-m, Pik-p, and Pit. Four accessions of indica type, Mayataung, Yekywin Yinkya Hmwe, Basmati9-93, and Basmati5854, showed the positive amplicons of six major... -
Survey of Egg- and Cyst-parasitic Fungi of Potato Cyst Nematode in Indonesia
The Plant Pathology Journal 5 Pages
5 32-36 (5 pages)
Twelve fungal isolates out of 123 isolates obtained from cysts and soils of potato cyst nematode (PCN)-infested fields in Central Java, Indonesia had parasitic abilities of over 50% on PCN eggs or females (cysts) in vitro pathogenicity tests. Cultural and morphological characters and DNA sequences of ribosomal genes in ITS region revealed that they were four isolates of Gliocladium (Trichoderma) virens, three isolates of Fusarium oxysporum, one of F. lateritium, one of Penicillium tritinum and... -
Purification and Phytotoxicity of Apicidins Produced by the Fusarium semitectum KCTC16676

7 417-422 (6 pages)
phase C18 silica gel column, resulting in 5 g of apicidin, 200 mg of apicidin A, and 300 mg of apicidin D2 from 4 kg of wheat cultures; this represents a significant yield improvement from a previous method, offers more materials to study the modes of its action, and facilitates the elucidation of the apicidin biosynthesis pathway. Apicidin and apicidin D2 showed phytotoxicity on both seedlings and 2-week-old plants of diverse species, and weeds were more sensitive to apicidins than vegetables -
Effect of Delayed Inoculation After Wounding on the Development of Anthracnose Disease Caused by Colletotrichum acutatum on Chili Pepper Fruit
The Plant Pathology Journal 8 Pages
4 392-399 (8 pages)
light microscopy, parenchyma cells at the wounding sites were modified structurally, initially forming new cell walls crossing cytoplasm, enlarged with multiple periclinal cell divisions, and finally layered like wound periderms. In DWI, the above structural modifications occurred, showing the restriction of the fungal invasion by the cell walls in enlarged modified cells, while no definite cellular modifications were found with proliferation of fungal hyphae in SI. Sclerenchyma-like cells with... -
Gene Expression Profiling in Rice Infected with Rice Blast Fungus using SAGE
The Plant Pathology Journal 8 Pages
3 384-391 (8 pages)
Rice blast disease, caused by the pathogenic fungus Magnaporthe grisea, is a serious issue in rice (Oryza sativa L.) growing regions of the world. Transcript profiling in rice inoculated with the fungus has been investigated using the transcriptomics technology, serial analysis of gene expression (SAGE). Short sequence tags containing sufficient information which are ten base-pairs representing the unique transcripts were identified by SAGE technology. We identified a total of 910 tag sequences... -
Effects of Temperature and Culture Media Composition on Sporulation, Mycelial Growth, and Antifungal Activity of Isaria javanica pf185
Jang Hoon Lee, Yong Seong Lee, Young Cheol Kim 한국식물병리학회 식물병연구 8 Pages

on solid agar and liquid media. High growth temperature enhanced spore formation but reduced antifungal activity in both solid and liquid media. The highest spore yield was obtained in a medium containing glucose as a carbon source and yeast extract as a nitrogen source. Soybean powder and wheat bran were effective nitrogen sources that promoted spore production and antifungal ac- tivity of the isolate. These results revealed the basic, cost-effective growth media for commercial production of a... -
Current Status and Future Prospects of White Root Rot Management in Pear Orchards: A Review

of the disease caused by R. necatrix, makes it the most harmful fungal pathogen infecting the economical fruit tree species, such as pears, and is one of the main limiting factors in pear farming, with devastating effects on plant health and yield. In addi- tion to agronomic and cultural practices, growers use chemical treatments to control the disease. However, rising public concern about environmental pollution and harmful effects of chemicals in humans and ani- mals has facilitated the search... -
Colletotrichum aenigma Associated with Apple Bitter Rot on Newly Bred cv. RubyS Apple
Seung-Yeol Lee, Leonid N. Ten, Jung-Joo Ryu, In-Kyu Kang, Hee-Young Jung 한국식물병리학회 식물병연구 6 Pages
4 70-75 (6 pages)
The abnormal brown sunken lesions were observed on cv. RubyS apple fruits in an orchard located in Gunwi, Gyeongbuk province, Korea. The primary observed symptoms such as small round sunken lesions and small black dots on the symptomatic area were different from the reported apple diseases. The affected apple fruits were sampled and subjected to isolation of the causal agent. Cultural and morphological characteris- tics of isolated fungal strain, designated KNUF-20GWA4, were similar to that of...
