Nanoporous carbon synthesized from grass for removal and recovery of hexavalent chromium
Shahin A. Pathan, Nancy S. Pandita 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 9 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2016, Vol.20 2 10-18 (9 pages)
Nanoporous carbon structures were synthesized by pyrolysis of grass as carbon precursor. The synthesized carbon has high surface area and pore volume. The carbon products were acid functionalized and characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, Brunauer?Emmett?Teller, transmission electron microscopy, and Energy Dispersive X-ray microanalysis. Acid functionalized nanoporous carbon was explored for use in removal of toxic Cr(VI) ions from aqueous media. An... -

Mesophase formation behavior in petroleum residues
Subhash Kumar, Manoj Srivastava 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 12 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2015, Vol.16 No.3 3 171-182 (12 pages)
a wide spectrum of industrial and advanced carbon products. It is produced by pyrolysis of petroleum residues. In this work, mesophase formation behavior in petroleum residues was studied to prepare environmentally- benign mesophase pitches, and the composition of petroleum residues and its influence on the mesophase formation was investigated. Two petroleum residues, i.e., clarified oil s (CLO-1, CLO-2) obtained from fluid catalytic cracking units of different Indian petroleum refineries, were... -
An overview of new oxidation methods for polyacrylonitrile?based carbon fibers
Hye Kyoung Shin, Mira Park, Hak-Yong Kim and Soo-Jin Park 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 8 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2015, Vol.16 No.1 2 11-18 (8 pages)
in determining the mechanical properties of the final carbon fibers, but the most commonly used methods, such as thermal treatment (200°C to 300°C), tend to waste a great deal of process time, money, and energy. There is therefore a need to develop more advanced oxidation methods for PAN precursor fibers. In this review, we assess the viability of electron beam, gamma-ray, ultra-violet, and plasma treatments with a view to advancing these areas of research and their industrial application. -
Carbon nanotubes synthesis using diffusion and premixed flame methods: a review
Garima Mittal, Vivek Dhand, Kyong Yop Rhee, Hyeon-Ju Kim and Dong Ho Jung 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 10 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2015, Vol.16 No.1 1 1-10 (10 pages)
In recent years, flame synthesis has absorbed a great deal of attention as a combustion method for the production of metal oxide nanoparticles, carbon nanotubes, and other related carbon nanostructures, over the existing conventional methods. Flame synthesis is an energyefficient, scalable, cost-effective, rapid and continuous process, where flame provides the necessary chemical species for the nucleation of carbon structures (feed stock or precursor) and the energy for the production of carbon... -
Removal of methylene blue using lemon grass ash as an adsorbent
Harminder Singh, Dawa Tshering B 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 8 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2014, Vol.15 No.2 6 105-112 (8 pages)
Wastewater from textile industries is a major cause of water pollution in most developing countries. In order to address the issues of water pollution and high cost for treatment processes, the use of an inexpensive and environmentally benign adsorbents has been studied. The objective was to find a better alternative to the conventional methods. Lemon grass waste (ash) collected from a lemon grass stream distillation subunit in Bhutan was tested for dye removal from aqueous solutions. The study... -
Water and oxygen permeation through transparent ethylene vinyl alcohol/(graphene oxide) membranes
Hye Min Kim, Heon Sang Lee 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 7 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2014, Vol.15 No.1 7 50-56 (7 pages)
We prepared ethylene vinyl alcohol (EVOH)/graphene oxide (GO) membranes by solution casting method. X-ray diffraction analysis showed that GOs were fully exfoliated in the EVOH/GO membrane. The glass transition temperatures of EVOH were increased by adding GOs into EVOH. The melting temperatures of EVOH/GO composites were decreased by adding GOs into EVOH, indicating that GOs may inhibit the crystallization of EVOH during non-isothermal crystallization. However, the equilibrium melting... -
Hierarchical porous carbon nanofibers via electrospinning
Aikifa Raza, Jiaqi Wang, Shan Yang, Yang Si, Bin Ding 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 14 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2014, Vol.15 No.1 1 1-14 (14 pages)
Carbon nanofibers (CNFs) with diameters in the submicron and nanometer range exhibit high specific surface area, hierarchically porous structure, flexibility, and super strength which allow them to be used in the electrode materials of energy storage devices, and as hybrid-type filler in carbon fiber reinforced plastics and bone tissue scaffold. Unlike catalytic synthesis and other methods, electrospinning of various polymeric precursors followed by stabilization and carbonization has become a...
