The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2015, Vol.19 No.6 4 499-506 (8 pages)
Angiotensin II (Ang II), a key mediator of hypertensive, causes structural changes in the arteries (vascular remodeling), which involve alterations in cell growth, vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) hypertrophy. Ang II promotes fibrotic factor like IGFBP5, which mediates the profibrotic effects of Ang II in the heart and kidneys, lung and so on. The purpose of this study was to identify the signaling pathway of IGFBP5 on cell proliferation and migration of Ang II-stimulated VSMC. We have been... -

The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2012, Vol.16 No.6 10 437-446 (10 pages)
Ulcerative colitis is an inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) characterized by recurrent episodes of colonic inflammation and tissue degeneration in human or animal models. The contractile force generated by the smooth muscle is significantly attenuated, resulting in altered motility leading to diarrhea or constipation in IBD. The aim of this study is to clarify the altered contractility of circular and longitudinal smooth muscle layers in proximal colon of trinitrobenzen sulfonic acid... -
Defective Mitochondrial Function and Motility Due to Mitofusin 1 Overexpression in Insulin Secreting Cells
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 7 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2012, Vol.16 No.1 11 71-77 (7 pages)
Mitochondrial dynamics and distribution is critical for their role in bioenergetics and cell survival. We investigated the consequence of altered fission/fusion on mitochondrial function and motility in INS-1E rat clonal Ղ-cells. Adenoviruses were used to induce doxycycline-dependent expression of wild type (WT-Mfn1) or a dominant negative mitofusin 1 mutant (DN-Mfn1). Mitochondrial morphology and motility were analyzed by monitoring mitochondrially-targeted red fluorescent protein.... -
Ca2+-induced Ca2+ Release from Internal Stores in INS-1 Rat Insulinoma Cells
KyungJinChoi, DongSuCho, JuYoungKim, ByungJoonKim, KyungMooLee, ShinHyeKim, DongKwanKim, SeHoonKim, HyungSeoPark 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2011, Vol.15 No.1 8 53-60 (8 pages)
The secretion of insulin from pancreatic Ղ-cells is triggered by the influx of Ca2+ through voltage-dependent Ca2+ channels. The resulting elevation of intracellular calcium ([Ca2+]i) triggers additional Ca2+ release from internal stores. Less well understood are the mechanisms involved in Ca2+ mobilization from internal stores after activation of Ca2+ influx. The mobilization process is known as calcium-induced calcium release (CICR). In this study, our goal was to investigate the... -
Direct Block of Cloned K+ Channels, Kv1.5 and Kv1.3, by Cyclosporin A, Independent of Calcineurin Inhibition
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 10 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2005, Vol.9 No.6 7 353-362 (10 pages)
The interaction of cyclosporine A (CsA), an immunosuppressant, with rat brain Kv1.5 (Kv1.5) channels, which were stably expressed in Chinese hamster ovary cells, was investigated using the whole-cell patch-clamp technique. CsA reversibly blocked Kv1.5 currents at 50 mV in a reversible concentration- dependent manner with an apparent IC50 of 1.0μM. Other calcineurin inhibitors (cypermethrin, autoinhibitory peptide) had no effect on Kv1.5 and did not prevent the inhibitory effect of CsA.... -
Buffering Contribution of Mitochondria to the [Ca2+]i Increase by Ca2+ Influx through Background Nonselective Cation Channels in Rabbit Aortic Endothelial Cells
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2005, Vol.9 No.1 5 29-36 (8 pages)
To prove the buffering contribution of mitochondria to the increase of intracellular Ca2+ level ([Ca2+]i) via background nonselective cation channel (background NSCC), we examined whether inhibition of mitochondria by protonophore carbonylcyanide m-chlorophenylhydrazone (CCCP) affects endothelial Ca2+ entry and Ca2+ buffering in freshly isolated rabbit aortic endothelial cells (RAECs). The ratio of fluorescence by fura-2 AM (R340/380) was measured in RAECs. Biological state was checked by... -
Modulation of Inwardly Rectifying K+ Channel by Intracellular and Extracellular pH in Bovine Aortic Endothelial Cells

The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2002, Vol.6 No.5 4 255-260 (6 pages)
The effects of intracellular and extracellular pH on the inwardly rectifying K (IRK) channel of the bovine aortic endothelial cells (BAECs) were examined using whole-cell patch-clamp technique. The IRK current, efficiently blocked by Ba2 (200μM), is the most prominent membrane current in BAECs, which mainly determines the resting membrane potential. The expression of Kir2.1 was observed in BAECs using reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) analysis.... -

H.Dobrzynski, M.Lei, S.A.Jones, M.K.Lancaster, M.R.Boyett The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 10 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2002, Vol.6 No.4 1 173-182 (10 pages)
The sinoatrial (SA) node is a complex and inhomogeneous tissue in terms of cell morphology and electrical activity. There are two models of the cellular organisation of the sinoatrial node: the gradient and mosaic models. According to the gradient model there is a gradual transition in morphology and electrical properties of SA node cells from the centre to the periphery of the SA node. In the mosaic model, there is a variable mix of atrial and sinoatrial node cells from the centre to the... -
Postnatal Changes in Atrial Compliance and Stretch-Induced ANP Secretion in Rabbits
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 9 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2000, Vol.4 No.5 8 393-401 (9 pages)
To define the postnatal changes in ANP secretion in response to mechanical stretch and atrial compliance, experiments have been done in perfused nonbeating rabbit atria with different ages: 1-day, 1-, 2-, 3-, 4-, and 8-wk-old. In 1-day-old-rabbits, an increase in intraatrial pressure resulted in an increase in atrial volume, which was higher than that in 1-wk-old rabbits. Increases in atrial volume stimulated the secretion of ANP with concomitant translocation of extracellular fluid (ECF) into...
