Factors Related to N-Terminal Pro-B-Type Natriuretic Peptide as a Biomarker for Heart Failure
Hyeong Suk Lee, Mona Choi, Eui Geum Oh 한국기초간호학회 Journal of Korean Biological Nursing Science 10 Pages
한국기초간호학회 Journal of Korean Biological Nursing Science 2016, Volume 18, No 4 7 247-256 (10 pages)
Purpose: This study aimed to examine the relationships between the N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) levels with the sociodemographic and clinical factors, self-care behaviors, and the physical symptom experiences in patients with heart failure. Methods: This cross-sectional study utilized a convenience sample of adult outpatients and inpatients who attended a cardiology department in a tertiary hospital in Seoul, Korea. The data from 154 patients with heart failure were... -
They Do, but I Don’t: Relationships Among AIDS Stigma Gap, AIDS Knowledge, and Attitude Toward AIDS-Related Issues
Seyeon Keum, Byoungkwan Lee, Hyun Jung Oh 한국헬스커뮤니케이션학회 헬스커뮤니케이션연구 43 Pages
한국헬스커뮤니케이션학회 헬스커뮤니케이션연구 2015, Vol.13 4 101-143 (43 pages)
This study examines whether there is a significant AIDS stigma gap among Korean people, and reveals causes and consequences of this perceptual gap. An analysis of the survey data collected to evaluate the impact of 2011 AIDS campaign in Korea revealed a perceptual gap between personal stigma and attributed stigma. AIDS knowledge was a significant factor in reducing this perceptual disparity. AIDS stigma gap significantly predicted public support on regulating prostitution but not on restricting... -
Differential Expression of Metabolism-related Genes in Liver of Diabetic Obese Rats

The Otsuka Long-Evans Tokushima Fatty (OLETF) rat, a model of spontaneous type 2 diabetes (T2D), develops hyperglycemic obesity with hyperinsulinemia and insulin resistance after the age of 25 weeks, similar to patients with noninsulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (DM). In the present study, we determined whether there are differences in the pattern of gene expression related to glucose and lipid metabolism between OLETF rats and their control counterparts, Long-Evans Tokushima (LETO) rats. The... -
Patterns of Psychosocial Adaptation to Chronic Illness and Disability
Jeong Han Kim, Norman L. Berven Yves, Ambroise Summer, Ibarra Tae Sun Kim 한국교육치료학회 교육치료연구 22 Pages
한국교육치료학회 교육치료연구 2010, Vol.2 No.2 1 1-22 (22 pages)
chronic illness and disability(CID), defined in terms of subjective well-being and coping strategies in a sample of 100 individuals with various CID conditions. Cluster analysis revealed four distinct clusters of respondents, suggesting a varying degree of psychosocial adaptation. These clusters were labeled succumbing(n=9), surviving(n=40), resilient(n=41), and thriving(n=10). Our findings indicate that resilient and succumbing groups are similarly likely to use coping strategies, but members... -
Chronic cerebral hypoperfusion and plasticity of the posterior cerebral artery following permanent bilateral common carotid artery occlusion
Kyung-OkCho, Seul-KiKim, SeongYunKim 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2017, Vol.21 No.6 9 643-650 (8 pages)
Vascular dementia (VaD) is a group of heterogeneous diseases with the common feature of cerebral hypoperfusion. To identify key factors contributing to VaD pathophysiology, we performed a detailed comparison of Wistar and Sprague–Dawley (SD) rats subjected to permanent bilateral common carotid artery occlusion (BCCAo). Eight-week old male Wistar and SD rats underwent BCCAo, followed by a reference memory test using a five-radial arm maze with tactile cues. Continuous monitoring of cerebral... -
Stem Cells in Drug Screening for Neurodegenerative Disease

model with which to screen effective drugs that increase neurogenesis. Recent technologies for human embryonic stem cells (ESCs) or induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) can provide human cells that harbour specific neurodegenerative disease. This article discusses the use of NSCs, ESCs and iPSCs for neurodegenerative drug screening and toxicity evaluation. In addition, we introduce drugs or natural products that are recently identified to affect the stem cell fate to generate neurons or glia. -
Defense Response and Suppression of Phytophthora Blight Disease of Pepper by Water Extract from Spent Mushroom Substrate of Lentinula edodes
한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 12 Pages
한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 2017, 33권 3호 5 264-275 (12 pages)
edodes that was derived from sawdust bag cultivation was used as materials for controlling Phytophthora blight disease of pepper. Water extract from SMS (WESMS) of L. edodes inhibited mycelial growth of Phytophthora capsici, suppressed Phytophthora blight disease of pepper seedlings by 65% and promoted growth of the plant over 30%. In high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis, oxalic acid was detected as the main organic acid compound in WESMS and inhibited the fungal mycelium at a... -

dual-task training (VUDT), stable base dual-task training (SDT), and on stroke patients’ balance and concentration abilities were examined. Design: Two-group pretest-posttest design. Methods: Dual-task training was conducted for thirty persons with chronic stroke who were hospitalized or receiving physical therapy and were randomly assigned to either the VUDT group (n=15) or the SDT group (n=15). The subjects were divided into two groups of 15 participants each, the VUDT group and the SDT group... -
