Exotoxins produced by Actinobacillus (A.) pleuropneumoniae (Apx) play major roles in the pathogenesis of pleuropneumonia in swine. This study investigated the role of ApxI in hemolysis and cellular damage using a novel apxIA mutant, ApxIA336, which was developed from the parental strain A. pleuropneumoniae serotype 10 that produces only ApxI in vitro. The genotype of ApxIA336 was confirmed by PCR, Southern blotting, and gene sequencing. Exotoxin preparation derived from ApxIA336 was analyzed for... -
Time-dependent changes of calbindin D-28K and parvalbumin immunoreactivity in the hippocampus of rats with streptozotocin-induced type 1 diabetes
Sun Shin Yi 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 8 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2013, 제 14권 제 4호 1 373-380 (8 pages)
The hippocampus is affected by various stimuli that include hyperglycemia, depression, and ischemia. Calcium-binding proteins (CaBPs) have protective roles in the response to such stimuli. However, little is known about the expression of CaBPs under diabetic conditions. This study was conducted to examine alterations in the physiological parameters with type 1 diabetes induced with streptozotocin (STZ) as well as time-dependent changes in the expression of two CaBPs changes of were being... -
Black rice anthocyanidins prevent retinal photochemical damage via involvement of the AP-1/NF-κB/Caspase-1 pathway in Sprague-Dawley Rats

± 200 lux; 25°C), and the protective effect of dietary BRACs were evaluated afterwards. Our results showed that dietary BRACs effectively prevented retinal photochemical damage and inhibited the retinal cells apoptosis induced by fluorescent light (p < 0.05). Moreover, dietary BRACs inhibited expression of AP-1 (c-fos/c-jun subunits), up-regulated NF-κB (p65) expression and phosphorylation of IκB-α, and decreased Caspase-1 expression (p < 0.05). These results suggest that BRACs improve... -
Comparison of techniques for transdiaphragmatic thoracic drainage after diaphragmatic defect closure in dogs: a cadaveric study
Hun-Young Yoon, F. A. Mann, Suhwon Lee, Soon-wuk Jeong* 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 5 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2013, 제 14권 제 2호 11 193-197 (5 pages)
Four thoracic evacuation techniques for pneumothorax elimination after diaphragmatic defect closure were compared in 40 canine cadavers. After creating a defect in the left side of the diaphragm, thoracic drainage was performed by thoracostomy tube insertion through the defect and a small (DD−SP) or large (DD−LP) puncture created in the caudal mediastinum, or through both the diaphragmatic defect and intact contralateral diaphragm with a small (DI−SP) or large (DI−LP)... -
Fast neutron irradiation deteriorates hippocampus-related memory ability in adult mice
Miyoung Yang, Hwanseong Kim, Juhwan Kim, Sung-Ho Kim, Jong-Choon Kim, Chun-Sik Bae, Joong-Sun Kim, Taekyun Shin, Changjong Moon* 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 6 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2012, 제 13권 제 1호 1 1-6 (6 pages)
Object recognition memory and contextual fear conditioning task performance in adult C57BL/6 mice exposed to cranial fast neutron irradiation (0.8 Gy) were examined to evaluate hippocampus-related behavioral dysfunction following acute exposure to relatively low doses of fast neutrons. In addition, hippocampal neurogenesis changes in adult murine brain after cranial irradiation were analyzed using the neurogenesis immunohistochemical markers Ki-67 and doublecortin (DCX). In the object... -
Biodynamic parameters of micellar diminazene in sheep erythrocytes and blood plasmar

In this work, we used a preparation of diminazene, which belongs to the group of aromatic diamidines. This compound acts on the causative agents of blood protozoan diseases produced by both flagellated protozoa (Trypanosoma) and members of the class Piroplasmida (Babesia, Theileria, and Cytauxzoon) in various domestic and wild animals, and it is widely used in veterinary medicine. We examined the behavior of water-disperse diminazene (immobilized in Tween 80 micelles) at the cellular and... -
Transmission electron microscopy for characterization of acrosomal damage after Percoll gradient centrifugation of cryopreserved bovine spermatozoa

대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2011, 제 12권 제 3호 10 267-272 (6 pages)
The objective of this study was to characterize acrosomal ultrastructure following discontinuous Percoll gradient centrifugation of cryopreserved bovine sperm. Semen was collected from six bulls of different breeds and three ejaculates per bull were evaluated. Frozen semen samples were thawed and the acrosomal region of sperm cells was evaluated by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) before (n = 18) and after (n = 18) Percoll centrifugation. The evaluation of 20 sperm heads from each of the... -

promoted oxidative stress in this brain structure. The biochemical changes observed in neuronal tissues showed that aluminium acted as a pro-oxidant. However, the non- specific nitric oxide synthase (NOS) inhibitor, L-NAME, exerted anti-oxidant actions in AlCl3-treated animals. These results revealed that NO-mediated neurotoxicity due to intrahippocampal AlCl3 injection spread temporally and spatially to the forebrain cortex, and suggested a potentially neuroprotective effect for L-NAME. -
Histopathological changes of testes and eyes by neutron irradiation with boron compounds in mice

seminiferous tubules showed complete depletion of spermatogenic germ cells.Lens epithelial cells and lens fiber were swollen and showed granular changes in an exposure time dependent manner. However, boron carrier treatment had no significant effect on the lesions. These results suggest that the examination of histopathological changes of lens and testis can be used as “biological dosimeters ”for gauging radiation responses and the HANARO Nuclear Reactor has sufficient capacities for the BNCT. -
Prior Ischemic Treatment Renders Kidney Resistant to Subsequent Ischemia
Kwon-Moo Park and Ho-Jae Han 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 8 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2002, 제 3권 제 2호 9 115-122 (8 pages)
Prior ischemia leads to resistance against subsequent ischemic insults. The mechanisms that underlie this adaptive response remain unidentified. Thus, we studied whether the reduced susceptibility of mice previously subjected to the ischemia to ischemia/ reperfusion injury is related with altered inflammatory responses. Thirty minutes of bilateral kidney ischemia results in significantly increased plasma creatinine and blood urea nitrogen levels in BALB/c male mice. There is severe disruption of...
