Streptozotocin Diabetes Attenuates the Effects of Nondepolarizing Neuromuscular Relaxants on Rat Muscles
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2014, Vol.18 No.6 3 461-468 (8 pages)
The hypothesis of this study was that diabetes-induced desensitization of rat soleus (SOL) and extensor digitorum longus (EDL) to non-depolarizing muscle relaxants (NDMRs) depends on the stage of diabetes and on the kind of NDMRs. We tested the different magnitude of resistance to vecuronium, cisatracurium, and rocuronium at different stages of streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetes by the EDL sciatic nerve-muscle preparations, and the SOL sciatic nerve-muscle preparations from rats after 4 and... -

The purpose of the present study was to investigate cardiac damage biomarkers after a triathlon race in elite and non-elite athlete groups. Fifteen healthy men participated in the study. Based on performance, they were divided into elite athlete group (EG: n=7) and non-elite athlete group (NEG: n=8). Participants’ blood samples were obtained during four periods: before, immediately, 2 hours and 7 days after finishing the race. creatine kinase (CK), creatine kinase-myoglobin (CK-MB),... -
Effects of Vitamin D on Blood Pressure and Endothelial Function
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2013, Vol.17 No.5 2 385-392 (8 pages)
Vitamin D deficiency is prevalent, primarily due to limited sun exposure, which may be observed in urban areas, or as a result of modern lifestyles. Common myths about vitamin D persist, including that it is mostly obtained from the diet and is only essential for bone and mineral homeostasis. Nonetheless, advances in biomedical science suggest that vitamin D is a hormone that is integral to numerous physiologic functions in most cells and tissues. Therefore, abnormal vitamin D levels may... -
Effect of Lutein on L-NAME-Induced Hypertensive Rats
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 7 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2013, Vol.17 No.4 12 339-345 (7 pages)
We investigated the antihypertensive effect of lutein on NG-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester hydrochloride (L-NAME)-induced hypertensive rats. Daily oral administration of L-NAME (40 mg/kg)-induced a rapid progressive increase in mean arterial pressure (MAP). L-NAME significantly increased MAP from the first week compared to that in the control and reached 193.3±9.6 mmHg at the end of treatment. MAP in the lutein groups was dose-dependently lower than that in the L-NAME group. Similar results were... -
Changes in c-Fos Expression in the Forced Swimming Test: Common and Distinct Modulation in Rat Brain by Desipramine and Citalopram
SunHyeChoi, SungChung, JinHeeCho, YunHaCho, JinWookKim, JeongMinKim, HeeJeongKim, HyunJuKim, KyungHoShin 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 9 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2013, Vol.17 No.4 10 321-329 (9 pages)
Rodents exposed to a 15-min pretest swim in the forced swimming test (FST) exhibit prolonged immobility in a subsequent 5-min test swim, and antidepressant treatment before the test swim reduces immobility. At present, neuronal circuits recruited by antidepressant before the test swim remain unclear, and also less is known about whether antidepressants with different mechanisms of action could influence neural circuits differentially. To reveal the neural circuits associated with antidepressant... -
Influence of Fimasartan (a Novel AT1 Receptor Blocker) on Catecholamine Release in the Adrenal Medulla of Spontaneously Hypertensive Rats
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 11 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2013, Vol.17 No.1 14 99-109 (11 pages)
The aim of this study was to determine whether fimasartan, a newly developed AT1 receptor blocker, can affect the CA release in the isolated perfused model of the adrenal medulla of spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs). Fimasartan (5∼50 ՌM) perfused into an adrenal vein for 90 min produced dose- and time-dependently inhibited the CA secretory responses evoked by ACh (5.32 mM), high K+ (56 mM, a direct membrane depolarizer), DMPP (100 ՌM) and McN-A-343 (100 ՌM). Fimasartan... -
TRPC-Mediated Current Is Not Involved in Endocannabinoid-Induced Short-Term Depression in Cerebellum
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2012, Vol.16 No.2 9 139-144 (6 pages)
It has been reported that activation of metabotropic glutamate receptor 1 (mGluR1) can mediate endocannabinoid-induced short-term depression of synaptic transmission in cerebellar parallel fiber (PF)-Purkinje cell (PC) synapse. mGluR1 has signaling pathways involved in intracellular calcium increase which may contribute to endocannabinoid release. Two major mGluR1-evoked calcium signaling pathways are known: (1) slow-kinetic inward current carried by transient receptor potential canonical (TRPC)... -

The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2009, Vol.13 No.3 11 209-214 (6 pages)
The striatum receives glutamatergic afferents from the cortex and thalamus, and these synaptic transmissions are mediated byՁ-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazolepropionate (AMPA) and N-methyl- D-aspartate (NMDA) receptors. The purpose of this study was to characterize glutamate receptors by analyzing NMDA/AMPA ratio and rectification of AMPA and NMDA excitatory postsynaptic currents (EPSCs) using a whole-cell voltage-clamp method in the dorsal striatum. Receptor antagonists were used to... -
Ischemia/reperfusion Lung Injury Increases Serum Ferritin and Heme Oxygenase-1 in Rats
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 7 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2009, Vol.13 No.3 7 181-187 (7 pages)
Intestinal ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) is one of common causes of acute lung injury (ALI). Early and accurate diagnosis of patients who are like to develop serious acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) would give a therapeutic advantage. Ferritin and heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) are increased by oxidative stress and are potential candidates as a predictive biomarker of ARDS. However, the mechanisms responsible for the increases of ferritin and HO-1, and their relationship to ALI, are unclear. In...
