Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 20 Pages

in three ECE (Early Childhood Education institutions) in Bandung Regency, West Bandung Regency and Bandung City. The participants were seven parents from ECE who sent their children to the ECE institutions. Data were collected through observation, interviews with teachers and managers of early childhood education units. The results showed that the behavior of violence perpetrated by parents to children generally fell into two categories, namely acts of physical violence and verbal violence. In... -

Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 21 Pages
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2020, Vol.14 No.1 3 49-69 (21 pages)
Resilience is defined as a “positive adaption in the face of risk or adversity” (Wright, Masten, & Narayan, 2013). Both the teachers’ resilience and their readiness to develop preschool children’s resilience were examined in the Hong Kong context (n=196). Results from the K-means cluster analysis indicated that Hong Kong preschool teachers had a relatively high level of resilience, with family being a significant contributing factor. These teachers were generally ready to foster children’s... -

ranking, while location was the least important attribute. The findings suggest that lack of policy directive in the education sector has resulted in parents valuing the quality of schools in terms of reputation, infrastructure, etc. as more important attributes while ignoring travel time or tuition fees. The findings are expected to contribute towards helping academicians and practitioners to understand parental decision-making, more so from the Indian or developing country perspective. -
Beyond Underrepresentation: Constructing Disability with Young Asian American Children to Preserve the “Model Minority” Stereotype
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 23 Pages

that the few Asian Americans who do receive special education services are properly identified. In this study, I resist this assumption by exploring how the model minority stereotype contributes to cultural and racial biases in the special education identification process for Asian Americans. Using an ethnographic case study, I follow two Asian American kindergartners through their special education eligibility determinations across one academic year. The findings from this study reveal that... -

analysis spiral. The findings revealed that the main causes of the learning and retention challenges among problem learners are more of environmental factors than the perceived hereditary and spiritual factors. It is recommended that the Ministry of Education should organize sensitization education workshops and seminars for teachers, heads of institutions, and the student body in the elementary schools in Ghana aimed at fostering an understanding of the conditions of problem learners. This woul... -

Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 15 Pages

number of early childhood education classes available, number of teachers, number of children and teachers’ qualification. Section B assessed the type(s) of the assessment tool(s)/strategies adopted, when and how the procedure was carried out. Data were analyzed using simple percentages. Results indicated that the assessment procedure for pre-primary children in public schools was not developmentally appropriate for the children as paper and pencil’s type is the prominent one. It is therefore... -

regular classrooms. However, almost half of the counties and cities in Taiwan failed to deliver itinerant services to half of the special education students in their jurisdictions, which signals a shortage of special education support for regular early childhood teachers. The lack of clear guidelines in the current policies for preschool inclusion placement has also led to the neglect of special education inclusion students right to appropriate education. Responding suggestions are discussed. -

Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 22 Pages
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2017, Vol.11 No.2 5 85-106 (22 pages)
The allocation of free-play time in an early childhood curriculum provides opportunities for child-centred learning and gives children a chance to explore safely the world around them. However, previous literature suggests that the beneficial use background music during free-play time is contested and that further research would be useful. A specially designed survey was sent to teachers in Seoul, Kyoung-gi, and Choong-chung provinces in South Korea by e-mail and supplemented post-survey by n=12... -

understanding of rules in the context of Japanese kindergartens, one that is underpinned by teachers’ and children’s perspectives of desirable and undesirable learning behaviours and outcomes. Values education and risk society theory are employed as the theoretical basis to conceptualize the topic. The analysis from teachers’ interviews, teachers’ questionnaires and children’s interviews shows how values, risks and rules are foregrounded in teachers’ and children’s perspectives, building...
