Dear fellow symposium participants -- I am very grateful for this opportunity to introduce to you some observations and information on the open-air museums in Sweden. I hope this will be of interest in an international perspective, as well as for my Korean colleagues whom I understand are actively engaged in expanding the role and the enormous potential of open-air museums here in Korea -- clearly a very worthwile endeavor. As the director of the Museum of Far Eastern Antiquities, I cannot claim...

Do Kyun Kim, James W. Dearing 한국헬스커뮤니케이션학회 헬스커뮤니케이션연구 34 Pages
한국헬스커뮤니케이션학회 헬스커뮤니케이션연구 2015, Vol.12 4 115-148 (34 pages)
Despite the public health risks to international workers and the urgency to reach them with appropriate public health services and information, few strategies to do so have achieved both effectiveness and sustainability. The present article proposes the identification, recruitment, and activation of informal opinion leaders, a strategy that utilizes interpersonal influence through existing advice-seeking networks among the target population. Coupled with an explanation about recruitment and... -

In an ethnographic interview study, I examine the role that the English language plays in the lives of Filipina immigrants in South Korea as they navigate their new home as mothers of young children using the following research question: What impact does Filipina immigrant mothers’ knowledge of the English language have on their mothering experiences and the ways they navigate local communities in Korea? I examine how Filipina mothers use English as a means of communication with their children,... -

The Hong Kong Early Child Development Scale (HKECDS) is a tool for assessing holistic early child development in preschoolers aged from three to six years. The original version of the scale, HKECDS, was updated in 2019 (HKECDS-2) to reflect the contemporary context and local curricular expectations. Children (n = 144) from three kindergartens in Hong Kong completed the HKECDS-2 in individual sessions. Rasch model analysis and expert discussions resulted in a short version of the scale (HKECDS-3)... -

Seonghwan Kim, Mary McMullen 환태평양유아교육연구학회 Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 22 Pages
환태평양유아교육연구학회 Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2021, Vol.15 No.2 12 257-278 (22 pages)
South Korean ECEC has been transformed by dynamic socio-economic and political changes. In these changes, the Korean culture as it is embedded in ECEC is continuously being retranslated and reshaped in the new, and ever-changing context by means of globalization and from those who travel abroad and bring back new ideas. Previous research is limited in that it fails to connect broader Korean cultural and societal changes to changes in ECEC over time. In this paper we illustrate the history of... -

Stories in children’s daily lives reflect collective meaning-making and knowledge creation with educators, children, and families. The stories sparked during these collective journeys unveil their shared early childhood experiences (Engel, 2005) and inherited cultural wisdom across generations. Education for sustainable development (ESD) has drawn global interest within the field of early childhood education. UNESCO (2005) defined ESD as a weaving of social, environmental, and economical... -
