NO gas sensing ability of activated carbon fibers modified by an electron beam for improvement in the surface functional group
Mi-Seon Park, Sangmin Lee, Min-Jung Jung, Hyeong Gi Kim, Young-Seak Lee 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 7 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2016, Vol.20 3 19-25 (7 pages)
Activated carbon fiber (ACF) surfaces are modified using an electron beam under different aqueous solutions to improve the NO gas sensitivity of a gas sensor based on ACFs. The oxygen functional group on the ACF surface is changed, resulting in an increase of the number of non-carbonyl (-C-O-C-) groups from 32.5% for pristine ACFs to 39.53% and 41.75% for ACFs treated with hydrogen peroxide and potassium hydroxide solutions, respectively. We discover that the NO gas sensitivity of the gas sensor... -
The effect of the spinning conditions on the structure of mesophase pitch-based carbon fibers by Taguchi method
Zhao Jiang, Ting Ouyang, Xiangdong Yao, Youqing Fei 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 10 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2016, Vol.19 11 89-98 (10 pages)
to produce carbon fibers. The textures of the obtained carbon fibers were radial with varied crack angles, as observed by scanning electron microscopy and polarized optical imaging. The diameter, crack angle, preferred orientation, and tensile modulus of the produced samples were examined to investigate the influence of four spinning variables. The relative importance of the variables has been emphasized for each characteristic. The results show that thicker carbon fiber can be obtained with a... -

precursor and catalyst for carbon nanotube growth. This fly ash powder is mostly composed of pure carbon, predominantly present as sp2. In this work, the effect of sonication time on the morphology and structural properties of carbon rich fly ash particles is reported. The obtained results show that ultrasound treatment is an effective tool for producing ultrafine particles/fragments with higher porosity, which might be suitable for the adsorption of gasses. Moreover, carbon nanoparticles (CNPs)... -

to carboxylated multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs)- COOH was achieved through the formation of amide bonds. Then, the functionalized MWCNTs, MWCNT-amide, were treated by phosphoryl chloride to produce MWCNT-quin. The products were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, derivative thermogravimetric, steady-state fluorescence spectroscopy, and solubility testing. MWCNT-quin showed photo-electronic... -
Characterization and influence of shear flow on the surface resistivity and mixing condition on the dispersion quality of multi-walled carbon nanotube/polycarbonate nanocomposites
Young Sil Lee, Kwan Han Yoon 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 7 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2015, Vol.16 No.2 3 86-92 (7 pages)
Multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT)/polycarbonate (PC) nanocomposite was prepared by direct melt mixing to investigate the effect of the shear rate on the surface resistivity of the nanocomposites. In this study, an experiment was carried out to observe the shear induced orientation of the MWCNT in the polymer matrix using a very simple melt flow indexer with various loads. The compression-molded, should be eliminated. MWCNT/PC nanocomposite sample exhibited lower percolation thresholds (at 0.8... -
Carbon nanotubes synthesis using diffusion and premixed flame methods: a review
Garima Mittal, Vivek Dhand, Kyong Yop Rhee, Hyeon-Ju Kim and Dong Ho Jung 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 10 Pages

rapid and continuous process, where flame provides the necessary chemical species for the nucleation of carbon structures (feed stock or precursor) and the energy for the production of carbon nanostructures. The production yield can be optimized by altering various parameters such as fuel profile, equivalence ratio, catalyst chemistry and structure, burner configuration and residence time. In the present report, diffusion and premixed flame synthesis methods are reviewed to develop a better... -

a source of energy for the past few hundred years, and now in this era of technology, carbon has played a significant and very prominent role in almost all fields of science and technology. So as an honour to this marvellous element, we humans should know about its various forms of existence. In this review article, we shed light on all possible carbon-allotropes; similarities in their synthesis techniques and the starting materials; their wide range of possible availability; and finally, future... -
Excellent field emission properties from carbon nanotube field emitters fabricated using a filtration-taping method
Dong Hoon Shin, Seung Il Jung, Ki Nam Yun, Guohai Chen, Seok-Gy Jeon, Jung-Il Kim, Cheol Jin Lee 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 4 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2014, Vol.15 No.3 10 214-217 (4 pages)
A filtration-taping method was demonstrated to fabricate carbon nanotube (CNT) emitters. This method shows many good features, including high mechanical adhesion, good electrical contact, low temperature, organic-free, low cost, large size, and suitability for various CNT materials and substrates. These good features promise an advanced field emission performance with a turn-on field of 0.88 V/mm at a current density of 0.1 mA/cm2, a threshold field of 1.98 V/mm at a current density of 1 mA/cm2,...
