Percutaneous heartworm removal from dogs with severe heart worm (Dirofilaria immitis) infestation
Seung-Gon Lee, Hyeong-Sun Moon, Changbaig Hyun* 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 6 Pages
11 197-202 (6 pages)
Canine heart worm disease is often life-threatening due to its various complications, including right side heart failure, caval syndrome and pulmonary eosinophilic granulomatosis. Several preventive medications and melarsomine have been developed and they are very effective to control heartworm infestation. However, in a case of severe infestation, melarsomine therapy often results in an unfavorable outcome because of the severe immune reaction caused by rapid killing of the adult worm. Surgical... -
Transplantation of canine umbilical cord blood-derived mesenchymal stem cells in experimentally induced spinal cord injured dogs
Ji-Hey Lim, Ye-Eun Byeon, Hak-Hyun Ryu, Yun-Hyeok Jeong, Young-Won Lee, Wan Hee Kim, Kyung-Sun Kang, Oh-Kyeong Kweon 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 8 Pages
12 275-282 (8 pages)
This study was to determine the effects of allogenic umbilical cord blood (UCB)-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and recombinant methionyl human granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (rmhGCSF) on a canine spinal cord injury model after balloon compression at the first lumbar vertebra. Twenty-five adult mongrel dogs were assigned to five groups according to treatment after a spinal cord injury: no treatment (CN); saline treatment (CP); rmhGCSF treatment (G); UCB-MSCs treatment (UCB-MSC);... -
Bilateral Polydactyly in a foal
Bianca Carstanjen, Marie Abitbol, Christophe Desbois 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 3 Pages
17 201-203 (3 pages)
The following case report describes the diagnosis and surgery of bilateral polydactyly of unknown origin in a colt. A 7-month-old Berber colt was referred for cosmetic and curative excision of supernumerary digits. Radiographic examination revealed bilateral polydactyly and welldeveloped first carpal bones. Surgery consisted of an osteotomy of both second metacarpal bones combined with an amputation of the supernumerary digits. The follow-up at 18 months after surgery revealed a sound horse with... -
Establishment of a canine spinal cord injury model induced by epidural balloon compression
Ji-Hey Lim, Chang-Su Jung, Ye-Eun Byeon, Wan Hee Kim, Jung-Hee Yoon, Kyung-Sun Kang, Oh-kyeong Kweon 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 6 Pages
13 89-94 (6 pages)
A model that provides reproducible, submaximal yet sufficient spinal cord injury is needed to allow experiments leading to development of therapeutic techniques and prediction of clinical outcome to be conducted. This study describes an experimental model for spinal cord injury that uses three different volumes of balloon inflation and durations of compression to create a controlled gradation outcome in adult dogs. Twenty-seven mongrel dogs were used for this study. A 3-french embolectomy... -
Radiographic and computed tomographic evaluation of experimentally induced lung aspiration sites in dogs
Kidong Eom, Yunsang Seong, Heemyung Park, Nonghoon Choe, Jongim Park, Kwangho Jang 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 3 Pages
16 397-399 (3 pages)
This study was performed to radiographically examine the prevalence of aspiration sites and to evaluate their atomical correlation with the bronchial pattens. Ten healthy beagle dogs were repeatedly radiographed, at weekly intervals, in the left and right lateral, ventrodorsal (VD) and dorsoventral (DV) positions. Three mililiters of iohexol distilled with same volume of saline was infused into the tracheal inlet. Which lung lobe was aspirated was decided upon by the presence of a significant... -
Pygomelia or supernumerary limbs in a crossbred calf
M. M. Rahman, M. S. I. Khan, D. Biswas, B. C. Sutradhar, A. K. M. Saifuddin 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 3 Pages
17 303-305 (3 pages)
A crossbred (Sindhi × local indigenous) calf that was 12 days old was admitted to the Teaching Veterinary Hospital, Chittagong Government Veterinary College, Bangladesh, with two accessory hind limbs attached to the pelvic region in between the hind legs. This was clinically identified as a congenital anomaly popularly called pygomelia. The pygomelia was successfully corrected by surgical excisions. -
Eosinophilia due to osteomyelitis in a dog
Seifollah N. Dehghani, Shahin Hajighahramani 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 3 Pages
15 255-257 (3 pages)
A dog with a lesion in the left elbow area and presence of purulent materials was referred to hospital;history, clinical examination, laboratory test and radiological evaluation of the dog proved the presence of osteomyelitis. Eosinophilia was evident by haematologic test. Intensive antibiotic, anti-inflammatory medication, local wound management and restricted physical activity, improved osteomelitis condition and reduced eosinophil number. Therefore it seemed that osteomyelitis was the cause... -
Effect of BL-21 (Wei-Yu) acupoint stimulation on gastric motility following preanesthetic treatment in dogs
Hee-Young Kim, Oh-Kyeong Kwon, Tchi-Chou Nam 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 6 Pages
11 133-138 (6 pages)
for 30 minutes. Preanesthetics used were xylazine, diazepam, and acepromazine. Acupuncture needles were inserted to BL-21 (Wei-Yu) acupoint, and then changes of gastric motility were recorded for 60 minutes. The gastric motility following xylazine administration (1 mg/kg, IV) was markedly decreased. BL-21 (Wei-Yu) acupoints stimulation did not alter xylazine-induced depression of gastric motility. The diazepam (1 mg/kg IV) treated-gastric motility was increased mildly 20 minutes after drug... -
