properties and are among the materials most frequently used in the preparation of a large variety of composites [1-5]. CF-reinforced polymer composites have been widely used in many advanced technological fields, such as aerospace, engineering, sporting goods, automobiles, and marine industry during the past few decades due to their excellent properties, including high strength-to-weight ratios, light weight, high thermal and electrical conductivity, and relative ease of processing [6-10]. -

Sun-Ho Go, Hong-Gun Kim, Hee-Jae Shin, Min-Sang Lee, Hyun-Gyung Yoon, Lee-Ku Kwac 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 10 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2017, Vol.21 4 23-32 (10 pages)
A drop weight impact test was conducted in this study to analyze the mechanical and thermal properties caused by the changes in the ratio of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) to ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) laminations. The ratios of CFRP to EVA were changed from 10:0 (pure CFRP) to 9:1, 8:2, 6:4, and 5:5 by manufacturing five different types of samples, and at the same time, the mechanical/thermal properties were analyzed with thermo-graphic images. As the ratio of the CFRP lamination was... -

한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2016, Vol.19 4 32-39 (8 pages)
In this work, we studied the effects of electrochemical oxidation treatments of carbon fibers (CFs) on interfacial adhesion between CF and epoxy resin with various current densities. The surface morphologies and properties of the CFs before and after electrochemical-oxidation-treatment were characterized using field emission scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and single-fiber contact angle. The... -
Cellulose-based carbon fibers prepared using electron-beam stabilization
Min Il Kim, Mi-Seon Park, Young-Seak Lee 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 6 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2016, Vol.18 9 56-61 (6 pages)
Cellulose fibers were stabilized by treatment with an electron-beam (E-beam). The properties of the stabilized fibers were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis. The E-beam-stabilized cellulose fibers were carbonized in N₂ gas at 800°C for 1 h, and their carbonization yields were measured. The structure of the cellulose fibers was determined to have changed to hemicellulose and... -
Manufacturing and characteristics of PAN-based composite carbon fibers containing cellulose particles
Jee-Woo Yang, Da Young Jin, Ji Eun Lee, Seung Goo Lee, Won Ho Park 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 8 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2015, Vol.16 No.3 7 203-210 (8 pages)
This study fabricated low thermal conductive polyacrylonitrile (PAN)-based carbon fibers containing cellulose particles while maintaining their mechanical properties. The high thermal conductivity of carbon fibers limits their application as a high temperature insulator in various systems such as an insulator for propulsion parts in aerospace or missile systems. By controlling process parameters such as the heat treatment temperature of the cellulose particles and the amount of cellulose added,... -

한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2015, Vol.16 No.3 2 147-170 (24 pages)
In recent decades, there has been an increasing interest in the use of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) in aerospace, renewable energy and other industries, due to its low weight and relatively good mechanical properties compared with traditional metals. However, due to the high cost of petroleum-based precursors and their associated processing costs, CF remains a specialty product and as such has been limited to use in high-end aerospace, sporting goods, automotive, and specialist... -
Stabilization of pitch-based carbon fibers accompanying electron beam irradiation and their mechanical properties
Mi-Seon Park, Yoonyoung Ko, Min-Jung Jung, Young-Seak Lee 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 6 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2015, Vol.16 No.2 8 121-126 (6 pages)
Carbon fibers are prepared by stabilizing pitch fibers accompanying electron beam (E-beam) irradiation. The carbon fibers pretreated by E-beam irradiation achieve a higher stabilization index than the carbon fibers that are only heat-stabilized. In addition, the carbon fibers subjected to E-beam irradiation in the stabilization step exhibit a comparable tensile strength to that of general purpose carbon fibers. The carbon fibers pretreated with an absorbed dose of 3000 kGy have a tensile... -

한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2015, Vol.16 No.1 10 62-66 (5 pages)
In this study, carbonized fibers were prepared by using acidically cross-linked LDPE fibers. The surface morphologies of the carbonized fibers were observed by SEM. The effects of cross-linking process temperatures were studied using thermal analyses such as DSC and TGA. The melting and heating enthalpy of the fibers decreased as the cross-linking temperature increased. The cross-linked fibers had a carbonization yield of over 50%. From SEM results the highest yield of carbonized LDPE-based...
