EMI shielding effectiveness and mechanical properties of MWCNTs-reinforced biodegradable epoxy matrix composites
Yoon-Ji Yim, Dong Chul Chung, Soo-Jin Park 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 6 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2017, Vol.22 4 36-41 (6 pages)
Biodegradable epoxy (B-epoxy) was prepared from diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A and epoxidized linseed oil. The mechanical properties of B-epoxy composites reinforced with multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs/B-epoxy) were examined by employing dynamic mechanical analysis, critical stress intensity factor (KIC) tests, and impact strength tests. The electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness (EMI-SE) of the composites was evaluated using reflection and absorption methods. Mechanical... -
Thermo-electrical properties of randomly oriented carbon/carbon composite
Thakur Sudesh Kumar Raunija, N. Supriya 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 11 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2017, Vol.22 3 25-35 (11 pages)
showed an increasing trend in thermal conductivity with temperature for the carbonized samples and a decreasing trend in thermal conductivity with temperature for graphitized samples. The influence of the thickness of the test specimen on the thermal conductivity was found to be negligible. Further, all of the specimens after graphitization displayed an enormous increase in electrical conductivity (from 190 to 565 and 595 to 1180 S/cm in the through-plane and in-plane directions, respectively). -
Three-dimensional porous graphene materials for environmental applications
Muruganantham Rethinasabapathy, Sung-Min Kang, Sung-Chan Jang, Yun Suk Huh 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 13 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2017, Vol.22 1 1-13 (13 pages)
materials (e.g., graphene aerogels/hydrogels, sponges and foams) made of graphene or graphene oxide-based networks have attracted considerable attention because they offer low density, high porosity, large surface area, excellent electrical conductivity and stable mechanical properties. Water pollution and associated environmental issues have become a hot topic in recent years. Rapid industrialization has led to a massive increase in the amount of wastewater that industries discharge into the... -
The effects of carbon coating onto graphite filler on the structure and properties of carbon foams
Ji-Hyun Kim, Do Young Kim, Young-Seak Lee 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 5 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2017, Vol.21 16 111-115 (5 pages)
Carbon foams (CFms) are of crucial importance in electrical and mechanical devices due to their high thermal conductivity used for eliminating high heat flow and maintaining low temperatures [1]. The most common CFms are types of aluminum alloys, copper and diamond. However, the mechanical properties of metal-based heat sink materials are difficult to control at temperatures over 550°C [2,3]. Thus, CFms are actively investigated as heat sink materials because of their good properties, such as... -
A facile green reduction of graphene oxide using Annona squamosa leaf extract
Basavaiah Chandu, Venkata Sai Sriram Mosali, Bhanu Mullamuri, Hari Babu Bollikolla 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 7 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2017, Vol.21 9 74-80 (7 pages)
A highly facile and eco-friendly green synthesis of Annona squamosa (custard apple) leaf extract reduced graphene oxide (CRG) nanosheets was achieved by the reduction of graphene oxide (GO). The as-prepared CRG was characterized with X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscope (TEM), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and Raman spectroscopic techniques. Removal of oxygen containing moieties from the... -
Thermoelectric Seebeck and Peltier effects of single walled carbon nanotube quantum dot nanodevice
H. A. El-Demsisy, M. D. Asham, D. S. Louis, A. H. Phillips 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 8 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2017, Vol.21 2 8-15 (8 pages)
The thermoelectric Seebeck and Peltier effects of a single walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) quantum dot nanodevice are investigated, taking into consideration a certain value of applied tensile strain and induced ac-field with frequency in the terahertz (THz) range. This device is modeled as a SWCNT quantum dot connected to metallic leads. These two metallic leads operate as a source and a drain. In this three-terminal device, the conducting substance is the gate electrode. Another metallic gate... -
Mechanical properties of epoxy composites reinforced with ammonia-treated graphene oxides
Mi-Seon Park, Sangmin Lee, Young-Seak Lee 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 7 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2017, Vol.21 1 1-7 (7 pages)
The effects of ammonia-treated graphene oxide (GO) on composites based on epoxy resin were investigated. Ammonia solutions of different concentrations (14?28%) were used to modify GO. Nitrogen functional groups were introduced on the GO surfaces without significant structural changes. The ammonia-treated GO-based epoxy composites exhibited interesting changes in their mechanical properties related to the presence of nitrogen functional groups, particularly amine (C-NH2) groups on the GO... -
Effects of carbon additives on heat-transfer and mechanical properties of high early strength cement mortar
Dae-Geun Lee, Kyung Hoon Kim, Hyeong Gi Kim, Young-Seak Lee 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 4 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2016, Vol.20 11 72-75 (4 pages)
The repair of mortar-based structures is critically important because mortar-based structures such as buildings, bridges, tunnels, highway and roads are inevitably degraded by deterioration or damage. To save expense during construction and to avoid traffic congestion during repair work, it is very important to reduce construction time as much as possible. In order to reduce construction time, therefore, the setting time of mortars has to be shortened. The mortars which have short setting times... -

Jeong Kuk Shon, Xing Jin, Yun Seok Choi, Jong Gu Won, Yoon Kyung Hwang, Dae Jong You, Chengbin Li, Ji Man Kim 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 6 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2016, Vol.20 10 66-71 (6 pages)
kinds of carbon precursors including sucrose, furfural, p-toluene sulfonic acid (p-TSA) and phenanthrene [14-17] can be used to control the physicochemical properties of the OMC materials, for which the nature of the carbon precursors affects the conductivity, porosity and surface functionality of the carbon frameworks [17-19]. However, nano-replication methods for OMC materials, based on a conventional thermal process at high temperature (typically above 900°C), are time- and energy-consuming... -

Youbin Kwon, Wonbo Shim, Seung-Yeol Jeon, Ji-Ho Youk, Woong-Ryeol Yu 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 9 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2016, Vol.20 8 53-61 (9 pages)
The reportedly synergistic effects of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and graphene hybrids have prompted strong demand for an efficient modifier to enhance their dispersion. Here, we investigated the ability of poly(acrylonitrile) (PAN) to overcome the van der Waals interaction of multi-walled CNTs (MWCNTs) and graphene by employing a simple wrapping process involving ultrasonication and subsequent centrifugation of PAN/MWCNT/graphene solutions. The physical wrapping of MWCNTs and graphene with PAN was...
