Sorption behavior of slightly reduced, three-dimensionally macroporous graphene oxides for physical loading of oils and organic solvents
Ho Seok Park, Sung Oong Kang 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 6 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2016, Vol.18 4 24-29 (6 pages)
10 h to achieve the hydrophobic surface. The large meso- and macroporosity of the srGO sorbent, which is achieved by removing the residual water and the hydroxyl groups, is crucial for achieving the enhanced capacity. In particular, a systematic study on absorption parameters indicates that the open porosity of the 3D srGO sorbents significantly contributes to the physical loading of oils and organic solvents on the hydrophilic surface. Therefore, this study provides insight into the absorption... -
A review: methane capture by nanoporous carbon materials for automobiles
Pil-Seon Choi, Ji-Moon Jeong, Yong-Ki Choi, Myung-Seok Kim, Gi-Joo Shin, Soo-Jin Park 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 11 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2016, Vol.17 No.1 3 18-28 (11 pages)
Global warming is considered one of the great challenges of the twenty-first century. In order to reduce the ever-increasing amount of methane (CH4) released into the atmosphere, and thus its impact on global climate change, CH4 storage technologies are attracting significant research interest. CH4 storage processes are attracting technological interest, and methane is being applied as an alternative fuel for vehicles. CH4 storage involves many technologies, among which, adsorption processes... -
Effect of surface modification of carbon felts on capacitive deionization for desalination
Jong-Ho Lee, Hong-Joo Ahn, Donghwan Cho, Jeong-Il Youn, Young-Jig Kim, Han-Jun Oh 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 8 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2015, Vol.16 No.2 4 93-100 (8 pages)
Surface modified carbon felts were utilized as an electrode for the removal of inorganic ions from seawater. The surfaces of the carbon felts were chemically modified by alkaline and acidic solutions, respectively. The potassium hydroxide (KOH) modified carbon felt exhibited high Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface areas and large pore volume, and oxygencontaining functional groups were increased during KOH chemical modification. However, the BET surface area significantly decreased by nitric... -
Thermal properties in strong hydrogen bonding systems composed of poly(vinyl alcohol), polyethyleneimine, and graphene oxide
Sua Choi, Duck Kun Hwang and Heon Sang Lee 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 8 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2014, Vol.15 No.4 8 282-289 (8 pages)
Blends of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA), polyethyleneimine (PEI), and graphene oxide (GO) were prepared by solution casting method. Calorimetric thermal properties of the blends were investigated. The Tgs of PVA/PEI blends were higher than the Tgs of either of the component polymers at low concentrations of PEI. These abnormal increases of Tgs may be due to the negative entropy of mixing which is associated with strong hydrogen bonding between PVA and PEI. The degree of depression of s was not... -
Superhydrophobic carbon-based materials: a review of synthesis, structure, and applications
Long-Yue Meng, Soo-Jin Park 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 16 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2014, Vol.15 No.2 5 89-104 (16 pages)
Materials with appropriate surface roughness and low surface energy can form superhydrophobic surfaces, displaying water contact angles greater than 150°. Superhydrophobic carbon-based materials are particularly interesting due to their exceptional physicochemical properties. This review discusses the various techniques used to produce superhydrophobic carbon-based materials such as carbon fibers, carbon nanotubes, graphene, amorphous carbons, etc. Recent advances in emerging fields such as... -
Microwave heating of carbon-based solid materials
Teawon Kim, Jaegeun Lee, Kun Hong Lee 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 10 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2014, Vol.15 No.1 2 15-24 (10 pages)
pi electrons from sp2-hybridized carbon networks. In this perspective review, research on the microwave heating of carbon-based solid materials is extensively investigated. This review includes basic theories of microwave heating, and applications in carbon nanotubes, graphite and other carbon-based materials. Finally, priority issues are discussed for the advanced use of microwave heating, which have been poorly understood so far: heating mechanism, temperature control, and penetration depth. -
