Effect of Modulation of hnRNP L Levels on the Decay of bcl-2 mRNA in MCF-7 Cells
Mi-HyunLim, Dong-HyoungLee, SeungEunJung, Dong-YeYoun, ChanSunPark, Jeong-HwaLee 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2010, Vol.14 No.1 3 15-20 (6 pages)
was observed between control and hnRNP L-knock down MCF-7 Cells. On the other hand, the levels of AUF-1 and nucleolin, transacting factors for ARE in the 3'UTR of bcl-2 mRNA, were not significantly affected by the decrease in hnRNP L, suggesting that a disturbance in the quantitative balance between these transacting factors is not likely to interfere with the effect of hnRNP L. Collectively, the findings indicate that the decay of bcl-2 mRNA does not appear to be directly controlled by hnRNP L... -
Role of Glucocorticoids in Fasting-induced Changes in Hypothalamic and Pituitary Components of the Growth Hormone (GH)-axis
EunheeKim, SangheeSeo, HyunjuChung, SeungjoonPark 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2008, Vol.12 No.5 1 217-224 (8 pages)
NPY and GHS-R mRNA levels remained intact. In fasted adrenalectomized rats, corticosterone replacement increased GHRH-R mRNA levels and intensified the fasting-induced decrease in GHRH, but did not alter NPY or GHS-R response. These data suggest that elevated glucocorticoids mediate the effects of fasting on hypothalamic GHRH and pituitary GHRH-R expression, while glucocorticoids are likely not the major determinant in fasting-induced increases in hypothalamic NPY and pituitary GHS-R expression. -
Effects of Repeated Citalopram Treatments on Chronic Mild Stress- Induced Growth Associated Protein-43 mRNA Expression in Rat Hippocampus

Although growth associated protein-43 (GAP-43) is known to play a significant role in the regulation of axonal growth and the formation of new neuronal connections in the hippocampus, there is only a few studies on the effects of acute stress on GAP-43 mRNA expression in the hippocampus. Moreover, the effects of repeated citalopram treatment on chronic mild stress (CMS)-induced changes in GAP-43 mRNA expression in the hippocampus have not been explored before. To explore this question, male rats... -
Expression of Ca2+-activated K+ Channels and Their Role in Proliferation of Rat Cardiac Fibroblasts
SeyongChoi, WooseokLee, JihyunYun, JeongseokSeo, InjaLim 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2008, Vol.12 No.2 3 51-58 (8 pages)
Cardiac fibroblasts constitute one of the largest cell populations in the heart, and contribute to structural, biochemical, mechanical and electrical properties of the myocardium. Nonetheless, their cardiac functions, especially electrophysiological properties, have often been disregarded in studies. Ca2+-activated K+ (KCa) channels can control Ca2+ influx as well as a number of Ca2+-dependent physiological processes. We, therefore, attempted to identify and characterize KCa channels in rat... -
Inhibition of Nitric Oxide-induced Neuronal Apoptosis in PC12 Cells by Epigallocatechin Gallate

In the central nervous system, nitric oxide (NO) is associated with many pathological diseases such as brain ischemia, neurodegeneration and inflammation. The epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), a major compound of green tea, is recognized as protective substance against neuronal diseases. This study is aimed to investigate the effect of EGCG on NO-induced cell death in PC12 cells. Administration of sodium nitroprusside (SNP), a NO donor, decreased cell viability in a dose- and time-dependent... -
Inhibition of Angiotensin II-Induced Vascular Smooth Muscle Cell Hypertrophy by Different Catechins

A cumulative evidence indicates that consumption of tea catechin, flavan-3-ol derived from green tea leaves, lowers the risk of cardiovascular diseases. However, a precise mechanism for this cardiovascular action has not yet been fully understood. In the present study, we investigated the effects of different green tea catechins, such as epigallocatechin-3 gallate (EGCG), epigallocatechin (EGC), epicatechin-3 gallate (ECG), and epicatechin (EC), on angiotensin II (Ang II)-induced hypertrophy in... -
Buffering Contribution of Mitochondria to the [Ca2+]i Increase by Ca2+ Influx through Background Nonselective Cation Channels in Rabbit Aortic Endothelial Cells

To prove the buffering contribution of mitochondria to the increase of intracellular Ca2+ level ([Ca2+]i) via background nonselective cation channel (background NSCC), we examined whether inhibition of mitochondria by protonophore carbonylcyanide m-chlorophenylhydrazone (CCCP) affects endothelial Ca2+ entry and Ca2+ buffering in freshly isolated rabbit aortic endothelial cells (RAECs). The ratio of fluorescence by fura-2 AM (R340/380) was measured in RAECs. Biological state was checked by... -
Heterogeneity of the SR-dependent Inward Na+-Ca2+ Exchange Current in the Heavily Ca2+-buffered Rat Ventricular Myocytes

Voltage-sensitive release mechanism was pharmacologically dissected from the Ca2-induced Ca2 release in the SR Ca2 release in the rat ventricular myocytes patch-clamped in a whole-cell mode. SR Ca2 release process was monitored by using forward-mode Na-Ca2 exchange after restriction of the interactions between Ca2 from SR and Na-Ca2 exchange within micro-domains with heavy cytosolic Ca2 buffering with 10 mM BAPTA. During... -

It is well known that different expression of Apo-1/Fas (CD95) plays important roles in various tumors and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) pathogenesis. Apo-1/Fas mediated apoptosis is one of the important pathways of apoptosis and is known to mediate apoptotic cell death by fas ligand (FasL). To examine the possible relationship between Apo-1/Fas gene polymorphism and HCC susceptibility, MvaI restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) of Apo-1/Fas gene was examined in 94 Korean HCC patients... -
Modulation of Inwardly Rectifying K+ Channel by Intracellular and Extracellular pH in Bovine Aortic Endothelial Cells
Kyu-SangPark, InDeokKong, JoongWooLee, HyewhonRhim, YoungChulKim, InsukSo, KiWhanKim, 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages

The effects of intracellular and extracellular pH on the inwardly rectifying K (IRK) channel of the bovine aortic endothelial cells (BAECs) were examined using whole-cell patch-clamp technique. The IRK current, efficiently blocked by Ba2 (200μM), is the most prominent membrane current in BAECs, which mainly determines the resting membrane potential. The expression of Kir2.1 was observed in BAECs using reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) analysis....
