were observed in order to measure their levels of pretend play. The results of this study found children who were under the care of the teachers with a low degree of limitation engaged in pretend play more frequently, demonstrated a higher degree of make-believe actions and subjects, and played in more diverse areas of interest than the children under the care of the more limiting teachers. This study emphasizes the importance of providing children with an environment where they can play freely. -

Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 19 Pages
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2021, Vol.15 No.3 3 45-63 (19 pages)
Abstract Today many parents and preschool teachers communicate through social media. The purpose of this pilot study is to develop a tool that can reflect the new reality of parental involvement. The questionnaire incorporated three perspectives: cognitive, attitudinal (emotional) and informative. Five categories were identified and validated by... -

Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 24 Pages
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2021, Vol.15 No.1 4 53-76 (24 pages)
reports on a case study that investigated the implementation of New Zealand early childhood education (ECE) beliefs in a kindergarten in China and its implications. The study used a process of document analysis and individual interviews with teachers and parents to collect data. The incorporation of “Western” education approaches is not a new phenomenon in China. This paper uses empirical findings to highlight new concerns regarding this ongoing practice. It analyses the tensions emerging when... -

Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 26 Pages
Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 2020, Vol.14 No.3 6 113-138 (26 pages)
This study aims to investigate the effects of a home connection program in promoting parental mathematical interaction, teacher-parent cooperative relationship, and 3-year-olds’ mathematical ability. Forty-two 3-year-olds and their parents, from two childcare centers, were sampled; 21 children from one center served as the experimental group, and 21 children from the other center served as the comparison group.
