The Effect of Indomethacin on the Production of Eicosanoids and Edema during Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury in Skeletal Muscle
YoonJaeChung, ByungKyuSohn, KwangSoonHyun, SangHeeYoo, HyongKyunRyu, HyungGunKim 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 9 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2000, Vol.4 No.6 11 515-523 (9 pages)
metabolites were not induced by the ischemia itself rather they were significantly increased by reperfusion. Indomethacin treatment ameliorated limb edema and decreased the release of 6-keto-PGF1α, thromboxane B2, and PGE2 induced by reperfusion. But the inhibitory effect of indomethacin on edema (35%) was relatively low than the inhibitory effect on release of cyclooxygenase metabolites (up to 69%) by reperfusion. These results support the view that cyclooxygenase products may play a... -
Comparative Effects of PKB-α and PKC-ζ on the Phosphorylation of GLUT4-Containing Vesicles in Rat Adipocytes
Jong-SikHah 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2000, Vol.4 No.6 7 479-486 (8 pages)
this process. However, the involvement of protein kinase B (PKB)/Akt and PKC-ζ, those are known as the downstream target of PI3-kinase in regulation of GLUT4 translocation, is not known yet. An interesting possibility is that these protein kinases phosphorylate GLUT4 directly in this process. In the present study, PKB-α and PKC-ζ were added exogenously to GLUT4-containing vesicles purified from low density microsome (LDM) of the rat adipocytes by immunoadsorption and immunoprecipitation for... -
Regulation of the Contraction Induced by Emptying of Intracellular Ca2+ Stores in Cat Gastric Smooth Muscle

together with verapamil were greater than that of each one alone. In Ca2 store-emptied condition, 45Ca2 influx was significantly inhibited by verapamil, H-7 or genistein but not by trifluoperazine. However combined inhibitory effects of protein kinase inhibitors, H-7 and genistein, together with verapamil were not observed. Therefore, this kinase pathway may modulate the sensitivity of contractile protein. These results suggest that contraction induced by emptying of intracellular... -
The Enhancement of Endotoxin-Induced Nitric Oxide Production by Elevation of Glucose Concentration in Macrophage

a variety of factors. Recent study showed that endotoxin-induced NO synthesis and iNOS expression were greatly enhanced by elevation of extracellular glucose concentration in murine macrophages. Although this was suggested to be due to the activation of protein kinase C (PKC) via sorbitol pathway, there was lack of evidence for this speculation. This study was performed to delineate the underlying intracellular mechanisms of glucose-enhancing effect on endotoxin-induced NO production in Raw264.7... -
Role of Adenosine in the Activation of Myocardial Catalase Induced by Brief Regional Ischemia
Young-hoonKim, Chan-hyungKim, Gi-taeKim, HongChoi, Jong-wanPark, Myung-sukKim 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 5 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1999, Vol.3 No.1 7 53-57 (5 pages)
The activities of myocardial antioxidant enzymes are known to increase in the hearts preconditioned with the brief episodes of ischemia. This study was undertaken to elucidate the possible involvement of adenosine in the stimulation of myocardial catalase induced by the brief regional ischemia in rabbit hearts. Coronary artery descending the middle anterior wall of left ventricle was occluded for 15 min, followed by 1 hr of reperfusion. Upon reperfusion after the brief ischemia, the activity of... -
The Mechanism of t-Butylhydroperoxide-Induced Apoptosis in IMR- 32 Human Neuroblastoma Cells
Jung-AeKim, YongSooLee, KeunHuh 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 10 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1999, Vol.3 No.1 3 19-28 (10 pages)
Apoptosis has been implicated in the pathophysiological mechanisms of various neurodegenerative diseases. In a variety of cell types, oxidative stress has been demonstrated to play an important role in the apoptotic cell death. However, the exact mechanism of oxidative stress-induced apoptosis in neuronal cells is not known. In this study, we induced oxidative stress in IMR-32 human neuroblastoma cells with tert- butylhydroperoxide (TBHP), which was confirmed by significantly reduced glutathione... -
Sensitivity of Rabbit Cerebral Artery to Serotonin is Increased with the Moderate Increase of Extracellular K+

a variety of conditions including subarachnoid hemorrhage. The increase of [K]O in the range of 5∼15 mM may affect tensions of blood vessels and can change their sensitivity to various vasoactive substances. Therefore, it was examined in the present study whether the sensitivity of cerebral arteries to vasoactive substances can be changed with the moderate increase of [K]O, using Mulvany-type myograph and [Ca2]c measurement. The contractions of basilar artery and branch of... -
Effect of the Inhibition of PLA2 on Oxidative Lung Injury Induced by Interleukin-1

histochemical electron microscopy, increased generation of oxidants was identified around neutrophils and in the cytoplasm of type II pneumocytes. Mepacrine reduced the generation of oxidants in the tissue produced by neutrophilic respiratory burst. In immunoelectron microscopic study, PLA2 was identified in the cytoplasm of the type II pneumocytes after IL-1 treatment, but mepacrine diminished PLA2 particles in the cytoplasm of the type II pneumocyte. Based on these experimental results, it is... -

Regulation of AQP-4 Water Channel Expression in the Brain during Development and by Ischemia

of AQP4 mRNA, while ischemic brain injury decreased it. Osmotic water permeability of AQP4 channel expressed in Xenopus oocytes was inhibited by the pretreatment of BAPTA/AM and calmidazolium, a Ca2+/ Calmodulin kinase inhibitor, in a dose-dependent manner. These results indicate that the expression and the function of AQP4 channel are regulated by developmental processes and various pathophysiological conditions. These results will contribute to the understanding of fluid balance in the central...
