Inhibitory Effect of Moriniafungin Produced by Setosphaeria rostrata F3736 on the Development of Rhizopus Rot
Min Young Park, So Jung Park, Jae-Jin Kim, Dong Ho Lee, Beom Seok Kim 한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 9 Pages
한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 2020, 36권 6호 4 570-578 (9 pages)
Rhizopus rot is a serious postharvest disease of various crops caused by Rhizopus spp. and controlled mainly by synthetic fungicides. We detected the antifungal activity of a culture extract of Setosphaeria rostrata F3736 against Rhizopus oryzae. The active ingredient was identified as moriniafungin, a known sordarin derivative, which showed minimum inhibitory concentrations of 1-8 μg/ml against Colletotrichum spp. and 0.03-0.13 μg/ml against Rhizopus spp. in vitro. Moriniafungin showed... -
Potential of Using Ginger Essential Oils-Based Nanotechnology to Control Tropical Plant Diseases

Essential oils (EOs) have gained a renewed interest in many disciplines such as plant disease control and medicine. This review discusses the components of ginger EOs, their mode of action, and their potential nanotechnology applications in controlling tropical plant diseases. Gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy (GC-MS), high-performance liquid chromatography, and headspace procedures are commonly used to detect and profile their chemical compositions EOs in ginger. The ginger EOs are composed... -
Detection of Plant Pathogenic Viruses in Commercial Gochujang (Fermented Red Pepper Paste) from Korea
Seoyeon Ko, Na-Kyeong Kim, Hyo-Jeong Lee, Tae-Ho Ryu, Jin-Sung Hong, Rae-Dong Jeong 한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 6 Pages
한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 2020, 36권 5호 13 503-508 (6 pages)
The potential transmission of plant pathogenic viruses through processed foods could be a source of concern for global crop production; however, there is a lack of supporting evidence. The present study was conducted to investigate the presence of plant pathogenic viruses in five samples of gochujang (fermented red pepper paste) manufactured in Korea. Several viruses infecting pepper were detected by reverse transcriptionpolymerase chain reaction, among which the pepper mild mottle virus (PMMoV)... -
Characterization of a Strain of Malva Vein Clearing Virus in Alcea rosea via Deep Sequencing
Defu Wang, Liyan Cui, Yanni Pei, Zhennan Ma, Shaofei Shen, Dandan Long, Lingyu Li, Yanbing Niu 한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 8 Pages
한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 2020, 36권 5호 9 468-475 (8 pages)
Malva vein clearing virus (MVCV) is a member of the Potyvirus species, and has a negative impact on the aesthetic development of Alcea rosea. It was first reported in Germany in 1957, but its complete genome sequence data are still scarce. In the present work, A. rosea leaves with vein-clearing and mosaic symptoms were sampled and analyzed with small RNA deep sequencing. By denovo assembly the raw sequences of virus-derived small interfering RNAs (vsiRs) and whole genome amplification of malva... -
Rapid and Efficient Detection of 16SrI Group Areca Palm Yellow Leaf Phytoplasma in China by Loop-Mediated Isothermal Amplification
Shao-shuai Yu, Hai-yan Che, Sheng-jie Wang, Cai-li Lin, Ming-xing Lin, Wei-wei Song, Qing-hua Tang, Wei Yan, Wei-quan Qin 한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 9 Pages
한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 2020, 36권 5호 8 459-467 (9 pages)
Areca palm yellow leaf (AYL) disease caused by the 16SrI group phytoplasma is a serious threat to the development of the Areca palm industry in China. The 16S rRNA gene sequence was utilized to establish a rapid and efficient detection system efficient for the 16SrI-B subgroup AYL phytoplasma in China by loopmediated isothermal amplification (LAMP). The results showed that two sets of LAMP detection primers, 16SrDNA-2 and 16SrDNA-3, were efficient for 16SrIB subgroup AYL phytoplasma in China,... -
Genetic and Pathogenic Characterization of Bacterial Wilt Pathogen, Ralstonia pseudosolanacearum (Ralstonia solanacearum Phylotype I), on Roses in Korea
Ingyeong Lee, Yeong Son Kim, Jin-Won Kim, Duck Hwan Park 한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 10 Pages
한국식물병리학회 The Plant Pathology Journal 2020, 36권 5호 6 440-449 (10 pages)
The purpose of this study was to analyze the genetic and pathogenic characteristics of Ralstonia pseudosolanacearum in roses in Korea, and to examine the similarities and differences between Korean isolates and the first-reported European strains. Between 2017 and 2019, seventeen isolates from rose plants were identified as R. pseudosolanacearum using Ralstonia-specific primers. All 17 isolates were identified as race 1 using race-specific primers, and were confirmed as biovar 3 due to their... -

Xanthomonas campestris pv. campestris (Xcc), the pathogen of black rot which is the most destructive disease of Brassica vegetables throughout the world. Here, we reported two novel sequence-characterized amplified region (SCAR) markers (i.e., XccR6-60 and XccR6-67) for the detection of Xcc race 6 via re-alignment of the complete genome sequences of Xcc races/ strains/pathovars. The specificity of SCAR primer sets was verified by mean of PCR amplification using the genomic DNA template of Xcc... -
Mixed Infection of Sugarcane Yellow Leaf Virus and Grassy Shoot Phytoplasma in Yellow Leaf Affected Indian Sugarcane Cultivars

Sugarcane is an important sugar crop contributes more than 80% of world sugar production. Mosaic, leaf fleck, and yellow leaf (YL) are the major viral diseases af- fecting sugarcane, amongst YL occurrence is widely reported in all the sugarcane growing countries. It is caused by Sugarcane yellow leaf virus (SCYLV) and detailed works were done on complete genome charac- terization, transmission, and management. However, in countries like Egypt, South Africa, Cuba, Mauritius and Hawaii, the... -

Lysin motif (LysM) proteins are reported to be necessary for the virulence and immune response suppression in many herbaceous plant pathogens, while far less is documented in woody plant pathogens. In this study, we preliminarily characterized the molecular function of a LysM protein LtLysM1 in woody plant pathogen Lasiodiplodia theobromae. Transcriptional profiles revealed that LtLysM1 is highly expressed at infectious stages, especially at 36 and 48 hours post inoculation. Amino acid sequence... -
Comparative Pathogenicity and Host Ranges of Magnaporthe oryzae and Related Species

Host shifting and host expansion of fungal plant pathogens increases the rate of emergence of new pathogens and the incidence of disease in various crops, which threaten global food security. Magnaporthe species cause serious disease in rice, namely rice blast disease, as well as in many alternative hosts, including wheat, barley, and millet. A severe outbreak of wheat blast due to Magnaporthe oryzae occurred recently in Bangladesh, after the fungus was introduced from South America, causing...
