Polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMNs) play an important role in myocardial ischemia/reperfusion (MI/R) injury. Moreover, platelets are also important blood cells that can aggravate myocardial ischemic injury. This study was designed to test the effects of PMNs and platelets separately and together in provoking cardiac dysfunction in isolated perfused rat hearts following ischemia and reperfusion. Additional control rat hearts were perfused with 75⁓106 PMNs, with 75⁓106 platelets, or... -
Tyrosine Phosphorylation of Paxillin May be Involved in Vascular Smooth Muscle Contraction
Lian-HuaFang, Kyoung-SooCho, Sang-JinLee, Hee-YulAhn 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 7 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2000, Vol.4 No.3 5 211-217 (7 pages)
Paxillin is a regulatory component of the complex of cytoskeletal proteins that link the actin cytoskeleton to the plasma membrane. However, the role of paxillin during smooth muscle contraction is unclear. We investigated a possible role for the membrane-associated dense plaque protein paxillin in the regulation of contraction in rat aortic vascular smooth muscle. The tyrosine phosphorylation of paxillin, which was increased by norepinephrine, reached a peak level after 1 min stimulation and... -
The Transfection of Caldesmon DNA into Primary Cultured Rat Aortic Vascular Smooth Muscle

대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1999, Vol.3 No.6 8 597-603 (7 pages)
Caldesmon (CaD), one of microfilament-associated proteins, plays a key role in microfilament assembly in mitosis. We have investigated the effects of overexpression of the high molecular weight isoform of CaD (h-CaD) on the physiology of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs). Rat aortic VSMCs were stably transfected with plasmids carrying a full length human h-CaD cDNA under control of cytomegalovirus promoter. The majority of the overexpressed h-CaD appears to be localized predominantly on... -

Reactive oxygen species (ROS), generated by infiltrating neutrophils, are considered as an important regulator in the pathogenesis and deveolpment of pancreatitis. The present study aims to investigate whether neutrophils primed by 4β-phorbol 12β-myristate 13α-acetate (PMA) affect the productions H2O2 and lipid peroxide (LPO), NF-κB activation and cytokine production in pancreatic acinar cells, and whether these alterations were inhibited by an antioxidant, N-acetylcysteine (NAC) and... -
Effect of the Inhibition of PLA2 on Oxidative Lung Injury Induced by Interleukin-1

대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1998, Vol.2 No.5 10 617-628 (12 pages)
In order to understand the pathogenetic mechanism of adult respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), the role of phospholipase A2 (PLA2) in association with oxidative stress was investigated in rats. Interleukin-1 (IL-1, 50 ㄍg/rat) was used to induce acute lung injury by neutrophilic respiratory burst. Five hours after IL-1 insufflation into trachea, microvascular integrity was disrupted, and protein leakage into the alveolar lumen was followed. An infiltration of neutrophils was... -
The Effects of Aging and Atherosclerosis on Elastin of Human Aortas; Quantitative Analysis of Elastin-Content and SEM Analysis of Elastolysis

대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1998, Vol.2 No.5 7 591-600 (10 pages)
We have examined 24 human aortas aged 46∼90 years obtained from autopsies. Most exhibited gross lesions of some degree on the lumenal surface. Using hot alkaline treatment (0.1 N NaOH) at 70∼75oC for 5 hours, we extracted and quantitated elastin portions from the aortic wall in 3 different segments (UTA=upper thoracic aorta, LTA=lower thoracic aorta, AA=abdominal aorta). We have found UTA had 70.6%⁑1.39 (SE), LTA 61.6%⁑1.94 (SE), AA 49.2%⁑1.84 (SE) elastin respectively based... -
Cromakalim Blocks Membrane Phosphoinositide Activated Signals in the Guinea Pig Lung Mast Cells Stimulated with Antigen-Antibody Reactions
JaiYoulRo, JiYoungKim, KyungHwanKim 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 10 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1998, Vol.2 No.2 14 251-260 (10 pages)
Cromakalim (BRL 34915), known as an airway smooth muscle relaxant, inhibited the releases of mediators in the antigen-induced mast cell activation. It has been suggested that cromakalim, in part, inhibited mediator releases by inhibiting the initial increase of 1,2-diacylglycerol (DAG) produced by the activation of the other phospholipase system which is different from phosphatidylcholine-phospholipase D pathway. The aim of this study is to further examine the inhibitory mechanism of cromakalim... -

It has been reported that the g1ycoprotein extracted from A10e has strong anti-inflammatory response, However, there has been no research report yet about the effect of A10e on allergic hypersensitivity reactivity, By using guinea pig 1ung mast cells, this study aimed to examine the effects of A10e g1ycoprotein (NY945) on the mediator re1eases caused by mast cell activation, and a1so aimed to assess the effects of NY945 on the mechanism of mediator re1eases in the mast cell activation. We... -

The aim of present study is to investigate the effects of cGMP on hyperpolarization activated inward current (If), pacemaker current of the heart, in rabbit sino-atrial node cells using the whole-cell patch clamp technique. When sodium nitroprusside (SNP, 80μM), which is known to activate guanylyl cyclase, was added, If amplitude was increased and its activation was accelerated. However, when If was prestimulated by isopreterenol (ISO, 1μM), SNP reversed the effect of ISO. In the absence of... -
Effects of Ginsenosides on the Mechanism of Histamine Release in the Guinea Pig Lung Mast Cells Activated by Specific Antigen- Antibody Reactions
JaiYoulRo, YoungSooAhn, KyungHwanKim 대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 12 Pages
대한생리학회-대한약리학회 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 1997, Vol.1 No.4 11 445-456 (12 pages)
We previously reported that some components of ginsenosides decreased mediator releases evoked by the activation of mast cells with specific antigen-antibody reactions. This study aimed to assess the effects of ginsenosides (Rb2, Re) on the mechanism of histamine release in the mast cell activation. We partially purified guinea pig lung mast cells by using enzyme digestion, the rough and the discontinuous percoll density gradient method. Mast cells were sensitized with IgG1 and challenged with...
