John H. Rossmeisl Jr., Paulo A. Garcia, John L. Roberston, Thomas L. Ellis, Rafael V. Davalos 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 8 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2013, 제 14권 제 4호 9 433-440 (8 pages)
This study describes the neuropathologic features of normal canine brain ablated with non-thermal irreversible electroporation (N-TIRE). The parietal cerebral cortices of four dogs were treated with N-TIRE using a dose-escalation protocol with an additional dog receiving sham treatment. Animals were allowed to recover following N-TIRE ablation and the effects of treatment were monitored with clinical and magnetic resonance imaging examinations. Brains were subjected to histopathologic and... -
Distribution of red-spotted grouper nervous necrosis virus (RGNNV) antigens in nervous and non-nervous organs of European seabass (Dicentrarchus labrax) during the course of an experimental challenge
Benjamin Lopez-Jimena, Esther Garcia-Rosado, Kim Dawn Thompson, Alexandra Adams, Carlos Infante, Juan Jose Borrego, Maria del Ca 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 8 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2012, 제 13권 제 4호 4 355-362 (8 pages)
The distribution of red-spotted grouper nervous necrosis virus (RGNNV) antigens was examined by immunohistochemistry in the nervous and non-nervous organs of juvenile European seabass (Dicentrarchus labrax) during the course of an intramuscular infection. Histological changes resulting from the infection were evaluated from 3 days to 2 months post-infection. The specific antibody response was also studied 2 months post-challenge. Viral proteins were present throughout the experimental period in... -
A Serine12Stop mutation in PB1-F2 of the 2009 pandemic (H1N1) influenza A: a possible reason for its enhanced transmission and pathogenicity to humans

among humans. Genome annotations of this virus identified a stop mutation replacing serine at codon 12 (S12Stop) of the PB1-F2 protein, a virulence factor in influenza A viruses. Here, we discuss the significance of this finding and how it may contribute to host specialization, explaining the virtual absence of the H1N1 influenza A virus strain in pig populations. This finding is expected to lead to a better understanding of the transmission and pathogenesis of the 2009 pandemic strain. -
Enhanced tyrosine hydroxylase expression in PC12 cells co-cultured with feline mesenchymal stem cells

a variety of neuroregulatory molecules, such as nerve growth factor, brain-derived neurotrophic factor, and glial cell-derived neurotrophic factor, which upregulate tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) gene expression in PC12 cells. Enhancing TH gene expression is a critical step for treatment of Parkinson's disease (PD). The objective of this study was to assess the effects of co-culturing PC12 cells with MSCs from feline bone marrow on TH protein expression. We divided the study into three groups: an MSC... -
Altered expression of thioredoxin reductase-1 in dysplastic bile ducts and cholangiocarcinoma in a hamster model

been implicated in cell proliferation, transformation and anti-apoptosis. In the present study, using a hamster cholangiocarcinoma (ChC) model, we evaluated the immunohistochemical expression pattern of TrxR in precancerous lesions and ChCs as well as in normal bile ducts. The goal of this study was to determine the potential role and importance of TrxR in cholangiocarcinogenesis. For the ChC model, we obtained liver tissue specimens with dysplastic bile ducts prior to the development of ChC 8... -
Changes of gastrointestinal argyrophil endocrine cells in the COLO205 tumor-implanted Balb/c-nu/nu mice

in shape (open type cell) while cells showing round in shape (close type cell) were found occasionally in gastric and/or intestinal gland regions. The regional distributions of argyrophil cells in COLO205 were similar to those of Sham. However, significant decreases of argyrophil cells were detected in COLO205 compared to those of Sham except for the jejunum and ileum. In the jejunum and ileum, argyrophil cells in COLO205 showed similar frequencies compared to those of Sham. In the pylorus, the... -
Assessment of the California mastitis test usage in smallholder dairy herds and risk of violative antimicrobial residues

(n = 239) were aseptically collected from lactating cows in the Rift Valley of Kenya and tested using the CMT, somatic cell counts (SCC) and bacterial culture. The samples were also screened for violative drug residues using the commercial delvo test and compared to the milks mastitic status for possible association. There was a numerical but non-significant (p > 0.05) difference evident in the frequencies observed using the three different mastitis indicators. The prevalent bacterial species... -
Expression of apxIA of Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae in Saccharomyces cerevisiae
Sung Jae Shin, Jong Lye Bae, Young Wook Cho, Moon Sik Yang, Dae Hyuk Kim, Yong Suk Jang, Han Sang Yoo 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 4 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2003, 제 4권 제 3호 4 225-228 (4 pages)
apxIA gene was subcloned into Saccharomyces cerevisiae, and identified the expression of Apx IA protein. First, apxIA gene was amplified by PCR with the primers containing BamHI and SalI site at each end. Second, the DNA digested with BamHI and SalI was ligated into YEpGPD-TER vector, and transformed into S. cerevisiae 2805. Third, after identification of the correctly oriented clone, the 120-kDa of Apx IA protein expressed in S. cerevisiae 2805 was identified by SDSPAGE and Western blot. -
Glutamate and GABA concentrations in the cerebellum of novel ataxic mutant Pogo mice
Ki-Hyung Kim, Jeoung-Hee Ha, Seung-Hyuk Chung, Chul-Tae Kim, Sun-Kyung Kim, Byung-Hwa Hyun, Kazuhiko Sawada, Yoshihiro Fukui, Il 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 4 Pages
대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2003, 제 4권 제 3호 2 209-212 (4 pages)
The Pogo mouse is an autosomal recessive ataxic mutant that arose spontaneously in the inbred KJR/MsKist strain derived originally from Korean wild mice. The ataxic phenotype is characterized by difficulty in maintaining posture and side to side stability, faulty coordination between limbs and trunk, and the consequent inability to walk straight. In the present study, the cerebellar concentrations of glutamate and GABA were analyzed, since glutamate is a most prevalent excitatory... -
Effective methods for the production of immunoglobulin Y using immunogens of Bordetella bronchiseptica , Pasteurella multocida and Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae

대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 2002, 제 3권 제 1호 8 47-57 (11 pages)
Swine respiratory diseases induce severe economic losses in the swine industry worldwide. Several methods have been developed and applied to control these diseases. However, there are still problems of disease control in the swine industry. Recently, egg yolk antibodies have been found to offer several advantages for disease control in animals and humans. In a previous study (24), antibodies to several causative pathogens of swine respiratory diseases were developed. However, several problems...
