a preschool in regional Australia. Children completed selfreport booklets, rating how well they could hear in group time situations prior to and after the implementation of a sound amplification system. Early childhood educators completed an adapted version of the Listening Inventory for Education-Revised, rating the children’s hearing and listening. Quantitative analyses indicated that children’s hearing and listening improved, as reported by both educators and children. Qualitative analyses... -

interviews of Korean early childhood educators and Korean immigrant parents within the sociocultural framework, this study makes visible the meanings of engaging in a community-based children’s musical experience. Findings indicate that both groups of early childhood educators and Korean parents found that engaging in a community-based chorus provided developmentally appropriate and culturally responsive experiences for young children and their families. These findings suggest that the nature o... -
Number-Fact Knowledge and Mathematical Problem-solving of 5- to 7-year-olds
Jenny Young-Loveridge, Brenda Bicknell 환태평양유아교육연구학회 Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 17 Pages

and linguistic backgrounds. After a series of focused lessons, children’s knowledge of number facts, including single-digit addition, subtraction, and doubles improved substantially. However, children did not always apply this knowledge to relevant problem-solving situations. The difficulty level for recalling number facts was not directly related to the magnitude of the numbers, with certain salient facts such as 5+5 and 10+10 learned earlier than facts with smaller sums such as 2+3 and 1+4. -

A Cultural-Historical View of Child Development: Key Concepts for Going Beyond a Universal View of the Child
Marilyn Fleer 환태평양유아교육연구학회 Asia-Pacific journal of research in early childhood education 19 Pages

of conceptualizing children’s development (Hedegaard & Fleer, 2013). In drawing upon cultural-historical theory, this paper argues for a more localised and nuanced conception of human development. Through analyzing how society creates the conditions for children’s development (Hedegaard, 2012), this paper presents a view of development that captures both a traditional (historical lived in the present moment) and contemporary (new cultural technologies) view of children’s lived experiences. -

of the pedagogical conditions that are created through the use of fairytales. A pedagogical framework is introduced which captures the unique characteristics of fairy tales in the context of the pedagogical features that were used by the educators in the study presented. The key concept of affective imagination or emotional imagination is used to discuss the fairytale of “Jack and the Beanstalk” from the data set of 74 hours of digital video observations gathered over 16 preschool sessions. -
