3 170-175 (6 pages)
Objective: The anti-inflammatory effects of low-level laser in burn wound model in rats were investigated. Design: Randomized controlled trial. Methods: The rats were assigned to three experimental groups. Group I received second-degree burn wounds; Group II received dressing film and low-level laser (1.2 J/cm2) treatment after a burn wound; Group III received dressing film and low-level laser (2.3 J/cm2) treatment after a burn wound. After inducing a deep second-degree burn wound, the wound was... -

single test results without a designated gold test. The prevalence estimates for PTB in study population ranged 3.2-5.3% for conservative and 6.7-7.1% for liberal, depending on the priors used. The simulated specificities of the ELISA close to one another, ranging 84.7-90.6%, whereas the sensitivity was somewhat spread out depending largely on the priors with a range of 46.4-88.2%. Our findings indicate that the ELISA method appeared useful as a screening tool at a minimum level in comparison to... -
Therapeutic effect of topical application of curcumin during treatment of radiation burns in a mini-pig model
Joongsun Kim, Sunhoo Park, Byung-Suk Jeon, Won-Seok Jang, Sun-Joo Lee, Yeonghoon Son, Kyung-Jin Rhim, Soong In Lee, Seung-Sook L 대한수의학회 Journal of Veterinary Science 10 Pages
1 435-444 (10 pages)
Curcumin protects the skin against radiation-induced epidermal damage and prevents morphological changes induced by irradiation skin, thereby maintaining the epidermal thickness and cell density of basal layers. In this study, the effects of topical curcumin treatment on radiation burns were evaluated in a mini-pig model. Histological and clinical changes were observed five weeks after radiation exposure to the back (Co gamma-radiation, 50 Gy). Curcumin was applied topically to irradiated skin... -
Inhibition of voltage-dependent K+ current in rabbit coronary arterial smooth muscle cells by the class Ic antiarrhythmic drug propafenone
Jin Ryeol An, Hongliang Li, Mi Seon Seo, Won Sun Park The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 9 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2018, Vol.22 No.5 13 597-605 (9 pages)
In this study, we demonstrated the inhibitory effect of the Class Ic antiarrhythmic agent propafenone on voltage-dependent K+ (Kv) channels using freshly isolated coronary artery smooth muscle cells from rabbits. The Kv current amplitude was progressively inhibited by propafenone in a dose-dependent manner, with an apparent IC50 value of 5.04±1.05 μM and a Hill coefficient of 0.78±0.06. The application of propafenone had no significant effect on the steady-state activation and inactivation... -
Berberine Prevents Intestinal Mucosal Barrier Damage During Early Phase of Sepsis in Rat through the Toll-Like Receptors Signaling Pathway
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 8 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2015, Vol.19 No.1 1 1-8 (8 pages)
Our previous study has shown berberine prevents damage to the intestinal mucosal barrier during early phase of sepsis in rat through mechanisms independent of the NOD-like receptors signaling pathway. In this study, we explored the regulatory effects of berberine on Toll-like receptors during the intestinal mucosal damaging process in rats. Male Sprague-Dawlay (SD) rats were treated with berberine for 5 d before undergoing cecal ligation and puncture (CLP) to induce polymicrobial sepsis. The... -
Insulin Resistance of Skeletal Muscle was Recovered by Leptin Injection in vivo, but not in vitro, in High-fat Diet Fed Rats
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 6 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2005, Vol.9 No.2 8 125-130 (6 pages)
We examined the effect of leptin on the insulin resistance in skeletal muscles by measuring the glucose transport. Male Wistar rats were fed with chow or high-fat diets for 30 days. Three days before sacrifice, high-fat fed rats were subcutaneously injected with leptin (1 mg/kg body weight) for 3 days. The glucose transports in the epitrochlearis and soleus muscle were not different among the experimental groups under basal state, however these were decreased significantly in the high fat-diet... -
Mechanism of Leptin-Induced Potentiation of Catecholamine Secretion Evoked by Cholinergic Stimulation in the Rat Adrenal Medulla

The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2004, Vol.8 No.4 9 227-235 (9 pages)
The aim of the present study was to examine the effect of leptin on CA release from the isolated perfused model of the rat adrenal gland, and to establish its mechanism of action. Leptin (1∼100 ng/ml), when perfused into an adrenal vein of the rat adrenal gland for 60 min, enhanced a dose-dependently the secretory responses of CA evoked by ACh (5.32⁓103 M), DMPP (104 M) and McN-A-343 (104 M), although it alone has weak effect on CA secretion. However, it did not... -

including thermotherapy and transcutaneous electrical stimulation for the same period (n=17). Outcome measures involved forward head posture (FHP), foot pressure, neck disability index(NDI), and six-item headache impact test (HIT-6). Results: Relaxation approach and control groups improved significantly in the amount of forward head posture, neck disability index, and six-item headache impact test scores after training (p<0.05). The control group was found to be significantly different in the... -

Skeletal muscle atrophy is a common phenomenon during the prolonged muscle disuse caused by cast immobilization, extended aging states, bed rest, space flight, or other factors. However, the cellular mechanisms of the atrophic process are poorly understood. In this study, we investigated the involvement of mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) in the expression of muscle-specific RING finger 1 (MuRF1) during atrophy of the rat gastrocnemius muscle. Histological analysis revealed that cast... -
Efffects of Fluoxetine on ATP-induced Calcium Signaling in PC12 Cells
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 7 Pages
The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology 2004, Vol.8 No.1 9 57-63 (7 pages)
Fluoxetine, a widely used anti-depressant compound, has several additional effects, including blockade of voltage-gated ion channels. We examined whether fluoxetine affects ATP-induced calcium signaling in PC12 cells by using fura-2-based digital calcium imaging and assay for [3H]-inositol phosphates (IPs). Treatment with ATP (100μM) for 2 min induced [Ca2]i increases. The ATP-induced [Ca2]i increases were significantly decreased by removal of extracellular Ca2 and...
