adhesion pattern, whereas the spontaneous CR- strain showed typical localized adherence on HEp-2 cells. Electron microscopy confirmed highly curliated bacteria in the CR+ EHEC sample. Interestingly, the curliation disappeared in a msbB1 and msbB2 double mutant derived from the CR+ EHEC. These results suggest that the compromised outer membrane integrity caused by msbB mutations may abrogate curli production in the CR+ EHEC harbouring penta-acylated lipid A structure in their outer membrane. -

This is the first case report to describe the tumor regressive effect of systemic human neural stem cell (NSC)/5-fluorocytosine (5-FC) therapy on canine metastatic lung tumor. The therapeutic effects appeared approximately two weeks after 5-FC administration. Thoracic radiographs revealed a reduced number of lung nodules and decreased nodule size. However, there were no significant antitumor effects on primary lesions in abdominal organs. In conclusion, human NSC/5-FC prodrug therapy can secure... -
Inhibition of the Desensitization of Canonical Transient Receptor Potential Channel 5 by Dimethyl Sulfoxide

The classic type of transient receptor potential channel (TRPC) is a molecular candidate for Ca2+-permeable cation channel in mammalian cells. TRPC5 is rapidly desensitized after activation by G protein-coupled receptor. Herein we report the effect of dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) on the desensitization of TRPC5. TRPC5 was initially activated by muscarinic stimulation with 50μM carbachol (CCh) and then decayed rapidly even in the presence of CCh (desensitization). DMSO in the pipette solution... -
Neurovascular Mechanisms in Stroke, Neurodegeneration and Recovery

The emerging concept of the“neurovascular unit”may enable a powerful paradigm shift for neuroscience. Instead of a pure focus on the“neurobiology”of disease, an opportunity now exists to return to a more integrative approach. The neurovascular unit emphasizes that signaling between vascular and neuronal compartments comprise the basis for both function and dysfunction in brain. Hence, brain disorders are not just due to death of neurons, but instead manifested as cell signaling perturbations... -
Block of ATP-Sensitive K Channels Expressed in Xenopus Oocytes by Dimethyl Sulfoxide

The effects of dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) were studied in two groups of Xenopus oocytes, one expressing ATP sensitive K (KATP) channel comprised of sulfonylurea receptor SUR1 and inwardly rectifying K channel subunit Kir6.2, and the other expressing renal KATP channel ROMK2. At concentrations of 0.3∼10% (vol/vol) DMSO inhibited whole cell Kir6.2/SUR1 currents elicited by bath application of sodium azide (3 mM) in a concentration-dependent manner. The inhibition constant and Hill coefficient... -

In this study, composite PAN-based ACNFs embedded with MgO and MnO2 were prepared by the electrospinning method. The resultant pristine ACNFs, ACNF/MgO and ACNF/MnO2 were characterized in terms of their morphological changes, SSA, crystallinity and functional group with FESEM-EDX, the BET method, XRD and FTIR analysis, respectively. Results from this study showed that the SSA of the ACNF/MgO composite (1893 m2 g?1) is significantly higher than that of the pristine ACNFs and ACNF/MnO2 which is... -
Biocomposite membranes based on poly(3-hydroxybutyrate-co-3-hydroxyvalerate) and multiwall carbon nanotubes for gas separation
Mongyoung Huh, Hye Min Lee, Young Soo Park, Seok Il Yun 한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 6 Pages
한국탄소학회 Carbon Letters 2017, Vol.21 17 116-121 (6 pages)
The development of gas separation membranes is currently an active research area because of the rapidly increasing interest in carbon dioxide capture and hydrogen recovery, which are two of the most important solutions for problems related to energy and the environment [1-4]. Polymer membranes show selectivity in the separation of gases due to differences in the permeability of individual gases through the polymer film [3,4]. Even though advantageous in terms of low cost, the segmental...
