Objective: The purpose of this study was to clarify the effects of continuous force application for extrusive tipping movement and occlusal interference on periapical root resorption in the rat mandibular first molar. Methods: We constructed an appliance comprising a titanium screw implant with a cobalt– chromium post as the anchorage unit and a nickel–titanium closed coil spring (50 cN) as the active unit. Force was applied on the mandibular left first molar of rats for 8 (n = 10)... -

of a 10 year-old, male, German shepherd, was described on the clinical and morphological features. The mass with the dimensions of 5 x 2.5 cm was removed totally by maxillectomy and examined by radiography, magnetic resonance (MR) and biopsy. The tumor was histopathologically classified ameloblastoma of follicular type and in some fields showed acanthotic form. The invasiveness of the tumor was also observed to be high. This report is the first case of maxillary ameloblastoma in dogs in Turkey. -

group consisted of 24 females and 22 males, hypodivergent group of 26 females and 23 males, and hyperdivergent group of 24 females and 16 males. Buccolingual inclination of the maxillary and mandibular first and second molars was measured relative to the occlusal plane. One-way analysis of variance was used for intergroup comparison. Gender differences were evaluated using independent t -tests. Results: Buccolingual molar inclinations did not differ significantly between females and males (p >... -

with a palatal plate combined with rapid maxillary expansion (RME; Type E), and Class III palatal plate intraoral traction with RME (Type F). In Types A, B, C, and D, maxillary protraction alone was performed, whereas in Types E and F, transverse expansion was performed simultaneously with maxillary protraction. Results: Type C displayed the greatest amount of anterior dentoskeletal displacement in the sagittal plane. Types A and B resulted in similar amounts of anterior displacement of all the... -

of the maxillary sinus after the extraction of teeth limit the quantity and quality of the bone necessary for successful implant placement, especially in the edentulous posterior maxilla1). Many authors who have managed the insufficient bone problem in the posterior maxilla have reported various maxillary sinus floor augmentation techniques to increase bone volume and height. The sinus elevation surgery for implant placement was initially introduced by Boyne and James2) and by Tatum3). In these... -

An anatomical description and the relationship between the root apex of the maxillary tooth and the inferior wall of the maxillary sinus are essential for diagnosing sinus pathoses and planning a proper dental implant. The topography of the inferior wall with the maxillary root apices varies according to an individural's age, size and the degree of pneumatization of the maxillary sinus and the state of dental retention1). The first and second molar roots are most commonly in close proximity to... -
The Evaluation Methods of the Maxillary Sinus for Ensuring Predictability in the Sinus Graft Surgery

The edentulous posterior maxillary region presents unique and challenging conditions in implant dentistry compared with other regions of the jaws1,2). The available bone is lost from the inferior expansion of the sinus and residual ridge resorption after tooth loss. These factors increase stress to the implants. However, despite these concerns, treatment methods designed specifically for this area allow it to be as predictable as any other intraoral region. -
Distribution of the maxillary artery related to sinus graft surgery for implantation

From the pterygomaxillary junction to the pterygopalatine fossa region, the maxillary artery was usually branched into 5 arteries in the following order : posterior superior alveolar artery (PSAA), infraorbital artery (IOA), artery of the pterygoid canal, descending palatine artery, and sphenopalatine artery1). The lateral maxilla is supplied by branches of the PSAA and the IOA that form an anastomosis in the bony lateral antral wall, which also supplies the Schneiderian membrane2). -

five premolars and one molar of 20 healthy dogs over a 60-day period. The dogs were divided into four groups according to the ligature- inducing materials used: soft moistened food only, wire ligature (WL), silk ligature (SL) and twisted ligature with silk and wire (SWL). Periodontal indices were recorded, and dental radiographs were taken before and after 60 days of ligation. The ligatures were checked daily and the day the ligature fell out was noted. The period during which the ligatures were... -

Objective: The aim of this systematic multiscale analysis was to evaluate the effects of thermoforming on the physical and mechanical properties of thermoplastic materials used to fabricate transparent orthodontic aligners (TOAs). Methods: Specimens were fabricated using four types of thermoplastic materials with different thicknesses under a thermal vacuum. Transparency, water absorption and solubility, surface hardness, and the results of three-point bending and tensile tests were evaluated...
