Color Doppler imaging (CDI) was carried out to evaluate the effects of anti-glaucoma drugs on ophthalmic circulation using CDI-derived resistive index (RI) values. CDI was performed on nine Beagle dogs, and RI values were calculated for the medial long posterior ciliary artery before and after the administration of anti-glaucoma drugs. A significant increase in RI values was found after topical administration of levobunolol (p < 0.05) or dipivefrin (p < 0.05). Pilocarpine showed no effects on... -

Immunophenotypic analysis showed that AD-MSCs from both sites were CD44+, CD90+, and CD45-. Moreover, they were able, in vitro, to differentiate into fat, cartilage, and bone. Sc-AD-MSCs preserve in vitro multipotentiality up to P8, but Vs-AD-MSCs only tri-differentiated up to P4. In addition, compared to Vs-AD-MSCs, Sc-AD-MSCs had greater capacity for in vitro mineralized matrix synthesis. In conclusion, Sc-AD-MSCs have advantages over Vs-AD-MSCs, as Sc AD-MSCs preserve multipotentiality during... -

potential and BM-MSCs produced the most VEGF. AT-MSCs and UCB-MSCs showed greater in vitro osteogenic potential compared to the other cells. Radiographic and histological analyses showed that all tested MSCs had similar osteogenic capacities, and the level of new bone formation was much higher with implants containing MSCs than cell-free implants. These results indicate that AT-MSCs, UCB-MSCs, and WJ-MSCs can potentially be used in place of BM-MSCs for clinical bone engineering procedures. -

analysis of acetylated H3 and H4 protein levels in extracts from the ischemic cortical area showed that treatment with VPA increased the expression of acetylated H3 and H4 at 2 hrs after MCAO. These results demonstrated that treatment with VPA prior to ischemia attenuated ischemic brain damage in both mice tMCAO and pMCAO models and treatment with VPA immediately after reperfusion reduced the infarct area in the tMCAO model. VPA could therefore be evaluated for clinical use in stroke patients. -

species, including A. flavus, A. ochraceus, A. westerdijkiae, A. tubingensis, and P. citrinum, were also detected throughout the samples. Although mycotoxins were not detected in the samples, mycotoxigenic potential of A. flavus, A. ochraceus, and A. westerdijkiae isolates were confirmed. These results show that low temperatures (-20°C, 0°C, or 4°C) and/or high surrounding RH (>93%) are not safe environments for storage of dried red peppers as fungal growth can occur under these conditions. -

difference in Digital Infrared Thermographic Imaging (DITI) between affected and unaffected sides was less in the experimental group having acupressure massage than in the control group and the score of the recovery of facial paralysis was also increased in the experimental group. The Facial Nerve Grade Systems by Brackmann score that is a more objective index showed a significant difference between two groups (F=26.81, p<.001). Subjective symptom and depression scores were more decreased in the... -

between children’s age and sex to their KAP and parents’ KAP and children’s KAP. Regression analysis was done to determine parents’ and children’s KA contribution to their P. Findings show that majority of the parents and nearly half of the children have high KAP scores. As children’s age increases, their KAP slightly increases. Girls have slightly higher KAP than boys. For parents, knowledge was a predictor of practice while for children, attitude was a predictor for practice. There is a... -

of the human ear, a better understanding of biomechanics of the ear for sound transmission is achieved. The acoustic-mechanical vibration and energy transmission through the middle ear in normal and diseased ears can be visualized and quantified in a 3-dimensional FE model. Four novel model-derived “auditory test curves” named as the middle ear transfer function, energy absorbance, admittance tympanogram, and tympanic membrane holography are generated with clinically relevant applications. -

upon carbonization. The carbonized and then pulverized lignin exhibits brittle surfaces, the increased thermal stability, and the carbon assay with increasing the carbonization temperature. The scanning electron microscopic images and the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller result indicate that the steam-activated carbon has the specific surface area of 1718 m2/g, which is markedly greater than the carbonized lignin. This study reveals that biomassbased activated carbon with highly porous structure can be... -

highly exposed pigs (n = 28) had higher circulating neutrophil and lymphocyte (particularly B cells) counts, IgG and IgE levels, interferon-gamma (IFN and interleukin (IL)-4 productions, and lower IgA levels and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF production. The IL-4, IFN, and TNF levels significantly correlated with endotoxin level and/or pig age. Constant exposure of pigs to high levels of airborne endotoxins can lead to aberrant immune profiles. -
