This paper proposes a mathematical model of the plain-knitted loop, based on the simple elastica, which can be used to describe the dimensional properties of a plain-knitted fabric. Uniaxial and strip biaxial tensile properties of plain-knitted fabric were theoretically calculated from structure of the fabric and some of mechanical properties of yarn. The theory was compared with some experimental data.
