유전자 재조합 기술과 유전자의 염기서열 결정 방법의 진보에 의한 많은 정보의 축적은 유전자 구성과 발현의 연구를 위한 보다 신속한 염기서열분석을 요구하게 되었다. 일차로, DNA 염기서열(일차구조)로부터 tRNA 유전자를 찾는 computer program을 개발하였다. 이 computer program은 tRNA 유전자가 clover 잎 모양의 이차구초를 내포하고 있는 성질을 이용하였으며, intervening sequence(IVS)의 존재유무에 관계 없이 작동하도록 고안되었다. 이 program은 IVS가 존재가능한 yeast의 DNA 염기서열로부터 tRNA 유전자를 성공적으로 찾아내었다.
A dramatic increase of data produced by simpler methods of nucleic acid sequencing has needed the fast analysis of sequence data in research of gene organization. A computer program was developed for search of tRNA genes from linear DNA sequences. This program was based on the property that the DNA sequences reflect the tRNA secondary structure that has the clover leaf shape. And this program was designed to be able to work where an intervening sequence (IVS) mayor may not be present. The program has been successfully applied to tRNA genes of yeast where an IVS may or may not be present.
