Recently, it has been well known that ultrasonography is very useful to make a diagnosis of brain disease in neonates with birth weight less than 1,500 gm or premature infants less than 32 weeks pregnancy. But in Korea, it has never been reported yet on incidence, site, grade, distribution and follow up study of intracranial hemorrhage in infants with birth weight les than 1,500 gm by means of sonographic evaluation Authors analysed 81 cases of neurosonographic findings in infants with birth weight less than, 1,500 gm. RESULTS : 1. GMH/IVH was observed in 36 cases among the total 81 cases. 2. In 25 cases among the 32 cases which were known the time of occurrence of GMH, GMH was detected within the first week after birth. 3., The site of GMH was bilateral location 24 cases, right 5 cases and left 7 cases. 4. The grade of GMH was grade I 20 cases, grade II 6 cases, grade III 8 cases and grade IV 2 cases. 5. In follow up study of 24 cases, complete absorption of GMH were 15 cases rebleeding 3 cases, progressive hemorrhage 3 cases, and progressive intraventricular dilatation 3 cases.
