It is a pertinent task for social work education to develope and enhance the quality of social workers. Following criteria drawn from the Bartlett\'s and Boehm\'s, this study suggests five major tasks in social work education. First, social work is expected to respond to the public interest and to contribute through its services to the advancement of social well-being and to the accountable to the public for the manner and standards with which it conducts its activities. For achievement of these purposes, contents of social work education must include the knowledge and skills for minorities and the disadvantaged and oppressed, advocacy, and empowerment, and culturally competent and sensitive practices. Second, social work education should develop and posses a systematic body of knowledge rooted in scientific theories so that social worker can utilize concepts and principles and apply them to specific practice situations. Students must also learn philosophical knowledge, analytical skill, and skills for practice evaluation. Third, social workers must adhere to an identifiable body of values and ethics in social work profession and attitudes stemmed from them. The ultimate goal of social work education is to achieve the value of social conscience and human well-being in the democratic and humanitarian society. Fourth, social work must have a body of skills which are the result of integration of attitudes and scientific knowledges. With the cooperation of social agencies, the schools of social work must provide intense and thorough supervision for the students. Fifth, social workers must be collectively organized and be considered by themselves as members of a professional group whose knowledge, skills, attitudes, and norms of conduct that they share. The curricula of undergraduates and graduates including the field work program should the rearranged. For advancement of social work education we, educators, must dedicate ourselves to the field-centered education.
