Computed tomography of the stomach wall after ingestion of 500-800cc of water, followed by rapid intravenous injection of contrast medium, was performed. This was done in 44 gastric cancer patients to increase the detection rate of gastric wall abnormality and to reduce unwanted effects. The normal gastric wall average was measured 3.3 mm. varing between 2.1 mm and 5.6mm. In a selected group of 44 patients with gastric tumors, ranging in size between 0.8cm to 8cm, the CT detected wall abnormality in 43 cases. No serious side effect occurred. The results of our study support the use of water or an oral contrast agent for CT study of stomach cancer.
